The Great Dream Robbery by Greg James | Goodreads

I’m a huge fan of the Kid Normal series so I was overjoyed to see that James & Smith have collaborated again and that I was approved for this review copy. When his daughter Maya visits him in the expensive, secure, private hospital his boss is paying for, all she can do is watch him sleep. Until a boy appears in her dreams suggesting that the "accident" was no such thing and that she alone has the power to rescue her dad. By the crazy creators of the hilarious and clever Kid Normal series, The Great Dream Robbery is even more imaginative - even using imagination to drive the plot. As always, the authors often stop to speak directly to the reader, whether to explain something, apologise for something or to just make us laugh.I can’t wait to listen to the audio version, as I just know it will be as stupendously epic as the Kid Normal narrations. The Great Dream Robbery was whimsical with an interesting plot and laugh-out-loud writing! The concept of exploring people's dreams was very fun to read about and the characters were realistic and likeable. The writing was the best part and really suited the story well. Overall this was a great middle grade read that I would really recommend.

After the success of the Kid Normal series, I was excited to receive the new novel from Greg James & Chris Smith. I have to say I certainly wasn’t disappointed, as I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to crazy end. The Professor invented a device that allows you to visit other people's dreams. But the devious Lilith Delamere has trapped him inside a nightmare and Maya and the mysterious Dream Bandits must find a way to rescue him before it's too late! Maya will face a dangerous journey and some difficult choices. But sometimes all you need is a dream . . . and a bit of courage. But something went terribly wrong and Dad is in hospital, unable to wake up. His boss Lilith Delamere is paying all the expensive hospital bills, but Maya thinks there's something not quite right about the tall, dark haired lady who looks like she hasn't slept for months! This is a fabulous story with a broad appeal (not least to Geography teachers who could use the “wave-cut platform” rap in class to great effect!). The plot is fast-paced, has comic-style fonts which will encourage reading aloud, as well as a clever narrative style which enables the authors to befriend and talk directly to their reader. In addition, there are many laugh-out-loud moments which combined with the subtle undertones of how to face your fears, will leave children wanting to read more. It’s a triumph! I love that the machine was called CHEESE. OK, it also brought forth some hunger pangs because I love love cheese. Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - Teddy and Bea's Mum has also been caught up in something strange at Somnia Industries, and they want to know what. Together they become The Dream Bandits and put together an ingenious and totally bonkers plan to save their parents. The Great Dream Robbery’ is a book written by BBC Radio 1 hosts and children’s authors, Greg James and Chris Smith. It tells the story of 12 year old Maya who, unlike most other children her age, actually wants to go to bed early. Why? Because falling asleep is her only chance to save her dad, Professor Dexter, from the deceitful villain Lilith Delamere, who has trapped the Professor inside of a nightmare. Maya joins forces with the Dream Bandits to rescue him before time runs out.
