Description

Mankind first became aware of this world in the wake of World War II, when the use of atomic bombs opened temporary portals between the worlds, to which and through which the creatures were attracted by the radiation fallout, on which they feed. And giving the bad guys what they deserve for once, instead of what they always end up getting in the real world. It’s just delightful this way, even for those of us who before this book thought “Kaiju” was just a funny word. That’s how Jamie winds up on a parallel Earth working for the titular Kaiju Preservation Society: lifting heavy objects, serving snacks in conference rooms, shooting monsters in the face, and just generally providing assistance to the scientists studying skyscraper-size, Godzilla-like creatures with internal nuclear reactors.

the information on the Covid-vaccine is downright false: it does not immunise people against the virus: you cannot conveniently take off your masks in close quarters, just because you're vaccinated and be absolutely sure, you're safe. See, this reads as if the author had written the book with perfectly assigned hetero genders and in the first or second edit-pass aimed for the (more crowd pleasing) diversity, only: he couldn't really be bothered, hence the sloppiness. Written with the brisk pace of a screenplay, it's as quippy as a Marvel movie and as awe-inspiring as Jurassic Park. The bad guy pretty much has 'bad guy' tattooed on his face, which is also absolutely fine because wow is his depiction and fate satisfying.I believe what makes The Kaiju Presevation Society so accessible is that although the majority of the characters are scientific experts in their given field, Niamh with astrology, Kahurangi with chemistry, and Aparna with biology, having Jamie, a labourer whose main job title is to “lift things'', made those characters have to explain certain theories to him in simple ways. com describes the novel as "a remarkably fun book" and "exactly the book I needed for late December 2022. Everyone has that favorite catchy song they like to put on, a guilty pleasure to turn to when life is getting you down and you need something to cheer you up and lighten the mood. A predatory corporation on the Human Earth side (coincidentally led by Jamie's old boss Rob Sanders), in on the Kaiju secret, takes the opportunity to breach the barrier and move the Kaiju mother and her eggs to the Human side.

Tom has an urgent vacancy on his team: the pay is great and Jamie has debts – it’s a no-brainer choice. I attempted to lean forward in the beanbag and succeeded only in driving my ass farther into its recesses. And although Kaiju are their universe's largest and most dangerous animal, they need support to survive.

There's a diverse cast, entertaining banter, lots of good swearing, pop culture references at a level I found entertaining rather than intrusive, and I have a low tolerance for that.

The Kaiju Preservation Society is John Scalzi's first standalone adventure since the conclusion of his New York Times bestselling Interdependency trilogy. Scalzi brings his usual irreverent attitude to a mixture of hard science of several sorts, business deceit and political ignorance in the sense of ignoring the obvious; throw in engaging characters, a running gag and you have a thoroughly engaging story. Scalzi expertly delivers a tale where the humans don’t need saving from the gigantic creatures, this is where the gigantic creatures need saving from humans. The table was one of those ones that had a magnetic bead that dragged around blinding white sand under the glass, making geometric patterns as it did so.Yes, it’s hilarious and fun and at times almost ridiculous in a way a combo of a blockbuster and a sitcom can be.
