To this day, I look back on this and as each year passes, I shudder in embarrassment and shock at my stupidity. Read more about the condition Very Good: A book that has been read and does not look new, but is in excellent condition.

It was heartbreaking to read about Grenfell - both the harrowing details about what was inside, and the horrible mental aftermath on so many firefighters.

I have now read London's Firefighters from cover to cover and have not been disappointed by my purchase.

He is best for his contribution to Fire Service articles relating to Fire Service Command, Fire Service Tactics especially around Firefighting in high rise buildings.Feeling more confident, I now approached the fire and again held up my ID and said “bombero” to a group of police officers standing on the pavement. What is even more unfathomable and potentially unbelievable is that from there I ended up getting involved in fighting the fire. It was also exciting, driving the fire engines, rushing to scenes, using specialist equipment and meeting the public. It’s gripping, exciting, and honest and takes you on a true journey through the highs and lows of Steve’s successful career in the LFB. From the perspective of a fireman in a large city fire brigade this was unheard of, but I suppose on an island with only limited resources, it was a fairly common practice when the chips were down.

No hate, but I hate people who think he did "nothing" in there and as I've read some other reviews on the book, many people were complaining about it. It starts literally at the beginning of his career, in fact in Steves's case earlier, his interest started as a lad, visiting his local fire station. All of a sudden, we were firefighters in a fire, language meant nothing, you can’t understand a lot in a BA set at the best of times, let alone with the noise of the fire and the sound of water from the hose. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. Seeing dead bodies and going into a still burning tower is an important duty and it can traumatize you so much and you say he is only "crying"?Considering the writing, the author has portrayed his role at this incident in such an ambiguous way to lead readers to believe he was part of the initial deployment. But despite the change of time the feeling is exactly the same, whilst reading this book I couldn't help but grin especially reading about Steve's teenage years on station because it's the exact same feeling I have when I pull my uniform on and go to a station. A fantastic book from start to finish, documenting Steve’s career from the early days right up to his retirement in 2018. In April 2010 he was promoted to Group Manager and became head of the LFB Leadership and Management Development Team. But the most despicable issue with this work is that the author chose to totally disregard the instruction of his employer to remain quiet about the Grenfell Tower fire and allow the victims and their families to have the tragedy properly examined at the public inquiry.
