Other grooming items that can be useful when grooming a Goldendoodle include a dematting tool to make removing mats easy; and a comb such as a Greyhound comb or finishing comb. Dematting tools include things like the Mars Coat King, the Furminator, undercoat rakes, dematting combs, and others. If your dog has a frequent problem with mats and regular grooming doesn’t solve it, you might consider one of these products. However, you do need to be careful because most of these tools are very sharp. They involved cutting or splitting mats in some way. You might also consider using a detangling conditioner to try to prevent your dog’s coat from tangling or matting so easily. Brushing and grooming your dog often is usually the best way to prevent mats.

A combination of the two previously mentioned coats can be varied and widespread. It can be hard to know exactly what kind of comb or brush to use because combination coats can have stronger Labrador features or stronger Poodle features. There are many good brushes for your Goldendoodle’s coat. Here’s what to look for in a good brush for Goldendoodles.

The Doodle Brush has been designed specifically for grooming Labradoodles and other Poodle-crosses.

What is a Slicker Brush?

Depending on your Labradoodle’s fur, you may find that you can use a brush that works well with Poodles, Labradors, or combination fur. The first step to determining the brush type you need is determining which type of coat your dog has.

You should brush your doodle between 1 and 3 times a week. Daily is even better. A full groom (including nail trim, hair trim, ear cleaning, and bathing) should be done every 6 to 8 weeks. Can you groom your own Goldendoodle? Wavy (Fleece) — Most commonly, Labradoodles will have this type of coat. Also referred to as shaggy, fleece is the descriptor most breeders use when discussing this coat. This type denotes a relatively even mixture of Lab and Poodle in a dog’s lineage, and is probably the easiest coat type to care for. These coats are quite soft for being so coarse and dense, and they shed very little, if at all. There are three different types of brushes and, depending on your Goldendoodle’s coat type, you may need one or more of them. How often should I brush my Labradoodle? As a general rule, you should brush your Labradoodle once a week. If your dog has a very curly or very straight coat, though, it may need to be more often. Curly coats have a tendency to mat and tangle; straight coats are prone to shedding. You can prevent either of these issues by making an effort to brush your Labradoodle a few times a week. Brushes that are easy to clean make your life easier. Some brushes will be self-cleaning, meaning the pins retract to allow you to easily remove the hair. Goldendoodle Coat TypesA lot of Goldendoodles don’t shed much, since the Poodle doesn’t shed. However, once again, how much they shed depends on their genes. It’s important to note here that regardless of how much they shed, they still need to be regularly brushed. The Importance of Brushing Your Goldendoodle

Different Labradoodle coat types require different brush types, but these are the categories that you will most often see used for this breed. We also love the sturdy, comfortable handle that this brush has. It uses salon style grips that let you easily use the brush for a long period of time without hurting your hand. Technically, you should try to brush your Labradoodle every day. However, with today’s business surrounding us, we all know how difficult that can be to accomplish. Aim for a brushing at least once a week. If your dog is very active and gets himself into trouble a lot, you may want to brush him every few days for your own sake. It’s always a good idea to keep sessions as short as possible so your dog doesn’t get frustrated. Use lots of praise and treats to make the experience a positive one for your pup. It’s best to start grooming your doodle as soon as you get them so they can get used to it as a regular process.

Do Labradoodles shed? This depends on their coat type. Most Labradoodles shed very little, if at all, but those with straight coats will shed more often. If your dog has a wavy or curly coat, shedding should not be much of a concern for you.
