Tim Weaver book published Chasing the Dead". This is Somerset. 17 February 2010 . Retrieved 1 September 2013. And with his closest ally under arrest and about to reveal some truths of his own, the danger to Raker is coming from all sides... Author Tim Weaver is also working on an original TV series with the same drama team that made Line of Duty, so there’s plenty to look forward to from him… Watch this space.

Weaver's characters are almost always well crafted and convincing. The ones in this book are no exception to that. There are new people and some old friends. He is a master of pace and controlled tension. OK it's playing games but Weaver does it so well. A chapter ends on a key thought/aspect... And then so does the next one! There is light and dark here and bubbling around that ideas are building. Some bits I maybe worked out. The major twist I certainly did not! David Raker is basically a marvel at these cases and he soon makes links and the reader is taken on an intriguing journey. Both missing persons case relate and the reader gets to learn how and why. On the night Tom Brenner and his nine-year-old son Leo visit the Seven Peaks theme park, they head straight for the ghost house. As an inadvertent latecomer to the series, beginning with the tenth book, I cannot help but feel a tinge of regret for not delving into David Raker's world sooner. However, I am delighted to report that my newfound enthusiasm has led me to acquire the first book in the series. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to immerse myself in the earlier works and discover the depths of character and storytelling that I have been missing.

Briefly, in the present Tom Preacher and his son Leo recently disappeared at a Theme park, seen entering a ride but never reappeared. Raker is approached by Rebekah whose mother Fiona vanished nearly forty years earlier. However, recently Rebekah has received cards which appear to have come from her mother. The search for both Fiona and a friend Jennifer who went missing at the same time turns into a race against time as Raker discovers some very nasty individuals hiding hideous secrets. Are the two case’s connected? Chasing the Dead – Tim Weaver – Penguin Books". Penguin.co.uk. 7 July 2011 . Retrieved 1 September 2013. The conclusion of the book was very clever and it left me wanting to read more about both David and Healy and perhaps some of the other characters.I've read most of the David Raker series and really enjoyed all of them so was thrilled to have the opportunity to read The Last Goodbye, number 12 in the series. My issue with the Raker books has become the female characters. And I don't mean this in a bad way to Tim Weaver at all. But at a certain point, I realized that all of his female characters are completely interchangeable. All her life she has wondered what happened and hopes missing person investigator, David, can bring her closure. For example the story opens with the disappearance of a man and his nine-year-old son from the ghost house at a fun park. They’re seen queuing to go in and then entering the ghost house, but while customer both in front of and behind them in the queue safely leave the ride as expected, the man and his son never emerge and while some of their belongings are found inside there’s no sign of where they’ve disappeared to.

Missing persons investigator David Raker is hired by Rebekah to find out if the letter is actually from her mother - and soon makes a connection to the Brenners. An Interview with Tim Weaver". The Darley Anderson Blog. 1 August 2012 . Retrieved 1 September 2013. Weaver lives up to his name well in The Last Goodbye, masterfully handling then bringing together a variety of fascinating threads that span time and geography. He lures the reader into an intriguing tale then ratchets up the tension as his long-time hero and others are thrust into dire jeopardy. Another very good instalment in a very good series, well worth a look for crime fiction fans. In The Last Goodbye, the renowned missing persons investigator is hired to find out if a mysterious letter from a mother who walked out of her daughter’s life almost 40 years ago is real – and whether it has any connection to a father and son who disappeared in an amusement park haunted house just a day ago… The master of clever, unpredictable plots. The Last Goodbye floored me with its perfectly executed twists and tense, original premise' CLAIRE DOUGLASHealy is in a difficult situation and wrestles with his conscience, trying to keep Raker safe but knowing that it might be at the expense of his own life. Still, I held out hope that maybe Fiona could prove me wrong. I would have loved it if she had genuinely walked out on her kids, because that's an interesting mother to write about. I would have loved it if she genuinely resented her children, because that's an interesting woman to write about. When the book ended with a letter from Fiona expressing motherly love (despite her daughter spending decades believing she didn't love her family), I was so bored I skipped it. It seemed as though Fiona was being placed into the stereotype of how mothers are supposed to act, rather than being allowed to flourish into a flawed, but fascinating, three-dimensional figure. Tim Weaver is a master of the crime genre. You'll be gripped by the intricate plotting and whiplash-inducing twists. I couldn't look away' GILLY MACMILLAN WHO DOESN'T LOVE A GOOD OLD-FASHIONED MYSTERY AT CHRISTMAS? AND TIM WEAVER'S LATEST MISSING PERSONS THRILLER MAKES THE PERFECT GIFT . . . In this instalment David Raker has been asked by Rebekah Murphy, who we were introduced to in the previous book, to find her mother who disappeared in 1985 when Rebekah was three. She always wondered what happened to her. When she suddenly starts receiving condolence cards through the post who she thinks are from her mother.

TWO DISAPPEARANCES: At the country's newest theme park, Tom Preacher and his sone Leo are queuing for the ghost house. CCTV cameras record them entering - but they never exit, No one can find them inside - and no one can explain how they vanished. Another thirty-two seconds pass and then the mother and her twins exit. One of the twins is crying. The mother tries to comfort them as they move out of shot. It’s around this time that Tom’s mobile phone is discovered on the floor inside the ride because, less than thirty seconds later, one of the staff members emerges from the exit, holding the phone in his hand. It’s dark inside the ghost house but we find out afterwards that the staff member was alerted to the phone because it was ringing, the screen blinking on and off. As always the David Raker novels are well thought out and excellently written. Excellent and realistic characters and lots of information to keep your mind thinking. Each character is well developed, each with their own secrets and motivations. The deeper David Raker investigates the more the intrigue, uncovering more secrets as the truth unravels. The story is expertly paced to keep the reader hanging on every word and detail.

I’m a big David Raker fan and have read all of this authors previous books about as well as a stand alone which introduced Rebekah as a character. In this novel Rebekah and David come together as she hires him to look into her mother’s disappearance. Fiona Murphy walked out on Rebekah, her father and her brothers nearly 40 years earlier when Rebekah was 3. Tim Weaver really is the ultimate ‘just one more chapter’ author. Every chapter leaves you on a cliff hanger or questioning what you thought you knew and you just have to keep reading!
