Although I haven’t read the first book of this series yet, I’ve had it for months just haven’t gotten around to reading it, I was able to read this one with no issue. The book had many twists and turns and even though it dragged a little bit in some parts I still enjoyed it on the whole. The second part is the disappearance of someone on the cast of a reality show - the case that sends both detectives scrambling.

But you have to have read the first book to understand the dynamic between Leo and Ffion and the aftermath of events in book 1. Het leugenspel draait in eerste instantie een tijdlang om de zoektocht naar een vermiste deelnemer van de realityshow Exposure. A propulsive and topical thriller set against the beautiful backdrop of the Welsh mountains - fearless, fiery and funny DC Ffion Morgan is fast becoming my new favourite cop -- T. While A Game of Lies didn't have as many jaw dropping reveals as book one, I really enjoyed this story and never saw thewas obviously my cup of tea, but I think even non-procedural fans can enjoy this series. The Last Party (book one) was one of my favorite reads of 2022 so to say I had high expectations for this new release would be an understatement. Many thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for providing me with an advance copy of this book to review. I loved everything about this book - a brilliant, high-concept thriller with plot twists that made me gasp, and wonderful characters that had me laughing out loud and wincing in horror. Wanneer er uiteindelijk zelfs een moord wordt gepleegd, weet Ffion dat al haar verdachten een alibi hebben. I’m going to remain positive and be adamant that it was my mood’s fault that I couldn’t get into this one very well. I felt this book had the right about of twists involved in the plot, and it was timed well- this gives the impression that Mackintosh is conscious about her plot and timing.

I also enjoyed occasional chapters from other character viewpoints which really helps to show just how fake these sorts of programmes are. She sets about investigating the disappearance of a contestant that occurs during the filming of a reality TV show.

A Game of Lies takes us back to the mountains of North Wales introduced by Clare Mackintosh in The Last Party. The story begins roughly 18 months on from the first book and we soon learn that Ffion has not really changed! I had the same issue with A Game of Lies that I had with the first book in the series - the book felt too long. Detective Constable Ffion Morgan had seen the first episode though she has to put aside what she's watched on screen, and find out who these people, both in front of and behind the camera, really are.

A new reality television programme, Exposure, is being filmed near the village, and one of the local residents is a contestant. Having read and thoroughly enjoyed The Last Party earlier in the year, I'm so glad I got a chance to read this and what a book it was! A Game of Lies by Claire Mackintosh is based around a reality TV show where a murder takes place in the camp and Ffion is tasked with solving the crime. Given the location Ffion reaches out to Leo to advise him that a high-risk MisPer was coming his way. Soon there is a murder and as readers we are given the chance to see events through the eyes of several of the main characters.Thank you NetGalley and (publisher, Little Brown Book Group) for sending this book for review consideration. That ending brought such a deep smile to my face that, as you reach it, most readers will likely agree with me. Having the reality show as the backdrop for the case allowed for commentary on how this kind of television is produced as well as the fallout on social media. Let's not forget how, from the moment I read the first DC Morgan book, I fell in love with Cwm Coed, a small fishing town nestled between Wales and England. The second installment of DC Morgan’s series was such an anticipated read for me, since I absolutely loved the first book.

If one contestant guesses right the others secrets they are eliminated, the aim of the game is to make sure one person does not their ‘secret revealed’. The emotional depth and authenticity with which MacKintosh portrays their struggles and triumphs make them relatable and endearing. I especially liked Georgina, whose cold, unemotional demeanour conceals a dreadful secret but also a great sense of humour.I enjoyed this installment more than the first one--the pace and plot are balanced, and the mystery is tightly wound.
