Literature degree, but I’ve come to realise that I don’t hate poetry, it’s just a matter of finding the words that sing to you. This is definitely a different style of poetry, I’d highly recommend having a look at the images within and seeing if they are to your taste before investing in them because they can be off-putting. This book is perfect for anyone struggling with their own healing process and anyone trying to find meaning to their own life. Here is also rage and sorrow; at the limitations and restrictions of a woman’s given role and taken rights; at the expectations heaped upon the female form and spirit; of the false representations used to define womanhood and thus control it. It feels awful saying that, because each experience is a different one and it's unfair to compare them, but if you put two modern poems by different poets side by side and asked me to correctly match them to their poets, there's a strong chance I'll be unsuccessful. She currently lives in a house by the sea in New Jersey; and when she's not wrangling her cat, Honeybun, she stares out at the water and waits for the words to wash ashore.I really appreciated that, despite this being Aphrodite inspired, the author didn’t allow love or romance to be the biggest part of her story – she actually says as much in a few of her poems.

This series is beautiful and devastating, somehow making me laugh and cry, tugging at my heartstrings in the best way. I recently finished Dreams of Gods and Monsters, the final book in the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy.It was a short read with beautiful words, but at the same time, it felt like scrolling through someone's poetry-inspired Instagram feed - pretty but easily forgotten. I think maybe I lack the background knowledge of the scenarios which were at the times of classical poets or I also lack the classical vocab too.
