I believe I bought the MP-150 from turntableneedles.com. The ND use to carry Nagaoka, not sure why they stopped. Because the Nagaoka MP-150H is premounted on a headshell, no screwdriver and spare screws and bolts are included. The above and below images show part of the setup. Also used is a CH Precision A1.5 poweramp and Magico S1 MkII loudspeakers.

The E3 has an aluminum cantilever with an elliptical tip (0.3 x 0.7mil) while the base E1 model swaps the aluminum for carbon reinforced ABS and the tip for a 0.6mil spherical design. If anyone is reading this trying to figure out what I was; e.g. will the Nagaoka match well and be a simple swap for the new Pro-Ject Carbon turntables the answer is a definite Yes - go for it! Well, hopefully you'll be able to make it to one of the ASM meetings next year. They are generally good and some are really excellent (actually Frank Van Alstine's was one of them!). The Nagaoka MP-150 was a replacement for a very good, very well behaved AT-VM95SH. From the first drop it was hard not to notice the incredible separation, sound stage, and midrange texture. Bass and dynamics are also excellent, but took some time for the suspension to break in and bass to come around. The treble has plenty of air and detail, though has a trace more emphasis on recorded vocal sibilance than the very refined shibata. Tonal balance leans a bit to the warmish side, but offers a very involving you are there presentation. Overall, a worthy upgrade from the VM95SH, though not in every aspect. I recently added an MP500 stylus to the MP150 body, with stellar results....it's the best of both worlds, and offers nicely refined treble detail along with incredible micro dynamics, midrange clarity, separation, and pinpoint soundstage. The MP150 is really good...adding the MP500 stylus to it is sublime. I have used your so called recommendations such as Stanton 881S, and while they were good in their day I feel the Nagaoka’s are better and what I remember of stylus wear, the Stanton’s were certainly no better. You will like the MP-200 which is a little more refined than the 150. Tighter bass a bit more detail. I think that the 150 may be warmer but I am comparing it in different systems. What phono pre are you using? Since this Mini review is actually a spin-off from an extensive Avid turntable review, I had 3 tonearms and 3 turntables available. The next step for that review was to see how much the 8.800 euro Sequel turntable itself would improve on the entry-level Ingenium after fitting the TA-1 arm with the standard. To apply in store, simply call in to our branch and one of our experienced sales team will guide you through the application.

No part of the frequency range goes underrepresented: sparkly, non-edgy treble, midrange with a very nice presence, tight and slamming bass ... all combined with detailed imaging and a wide soundstage.

I'm very happy with mine. Took some time to break in, sounded dull at first. I,m new to this turntable stuff, but would like to know more. I keep wanting to go to the meetings but every time they have one I work. I work in the medical field and work evenings from 2pm to 8pm. I am a friend of Frank Van Alstine who attends some of their meetings. Either in store or from the comfort of your own home. We appreciate life is busy, so why not let us make it a little easier for you.
