When specials are near they will throw the specials stims which are used and give that special a buff. I’m inclined to believe his version; my rationale is why would he defect when he only had 10 days left before his duty in Vietnam would have ended? Losing the enemy in the fog or weather, or them breaking contact is all very probable (look at the Scarborough Raid) but ending the battle when it's clear no contact will be made would be great. Each special would get a different buff depending on role (Ranged would get speed / concentration, melee would get a hp or damage buff, others may get one that lets them attack faster) but these would be limited in number. Ask questions: This signals that the person is being heard, and they also feel safer to ask Qs of you.

I personally think the fight for survival is natural human instinct and Bobby Garwood probably did everything he could to stay alive in the grim conditions. Of course, it shouldn't be as simple as just saying "well this fight only has one enemy left that has a level -4 CR so the fight is no longer significant", it should also include thoughts about how many resources (spells, items, hp) the party has expended in the fight because the party is also no longer at their full CR because they're damaged. They can buff specials and make them much more of a threat, thus making a dangerous situation even worse. So, it does look like I glossed over the rules says stellar mode doesn't activate, which does mean your denied some powers. For further reference on what a bunch of whiny spanked bullies we were about the whole Vietnam experience, consult your local Rambo/Missing in Action/Red Dawn/other assorted he-man kicking commie ass movie from the 80's. On the other hand, for a project I've been doing ideas/notes for recently I plan to only have a few enemies. Slavish devotion to when exactly you are/aren't in a Significant Challenge(TM) really feels like a losing proposition for everyone, players and GM alike.

Games such as Tales of Symphonia 2 has various enemies(the reason is because you can capture them and use them in battle), each looking slightly unique but the same species. This is absolutely the intention of the rule, but it's not written as well and cohesively into the system as we wish. It can overwhelm the player and have them think that it may prove too much to switch out or remember what strategy should be utilized on certain enemies. If you were significantly faster than the enemy, then bringing them from smoke on the horizon to mast up should not be very long (but the visibility system in game has nothing to do with reality).I get the notices smoke spotted from the _________ and head in that direction but often find nothing after 3 hours. Mana is based on a specific occurrence in this case the enemy using their special skill and would also be an instant effect.
