However, if you are still not comfortable walking around like this, you can detach the daypack and attach it to the front so your valuables are in the vicinity and no one can grab it suddenly. Your gear is readily to hand, with the inclusion of a large zippered lockable opening that allows access to the main compartment.

The back panel is quite flat so that it can easily attach to the mothership backpack, but that also makes it less comfortable than a curved or padded back. That being said, we at HPL have heard repeatedly of travelers who have always been allowed to take their Farpoint 55 as carry-on luggage on both domestic and international flights.I’d received several recommendations about Osprey from fellow travelers, so I decided to purchase the Osprey Farpoint 55. Clearly, Osprey agrees as they’ve equipped the Farpoint 55 with an inconspicuous rescue whistle right on the chest strap. There is no rain cover on this pack, which sometimes comes built in on backpacking packs, so if you need one, be sure to find one that fits, or just carry some heavy duty trash compactor bags which you can pack your luggage into (as a liner inside the backpack, or even over the top of the pack, in a pinch).

The main complaint people have about the big bag is that there isn’t much of a built-in organizational system. Some blogs claim to have a ‘2022 updated’ Farpoint review but they’re old reviews with only the title changed.

Cushioned carry handles on the top and the sides allow you to easily grab the travel pack off airport baggage carousels. The left side has a mesh pocket, which you can use to stow a phone or a snack, and the right has a small attachment loop. Then perhaps I can offer some help, because I’ve used and reviewed nearly all versions of the Farpoint line-up. Or, stick around and compare the Osprey Farpoint 55 to more bags in the table below to make sure you find the perfect fit for your next backpacking trip! The only negative is that backpacks that have the daypack attached can be a bit bulky and unbalanced when they’re on your back.

Well that puts even more pressure on my shoulders area because the heaviest item in my luggage is far away from my back. Plus, it meets most domestic carry-on requirements with the main pack overhead and daypack as your personal item for far-flung adventures. The Osprey Farpoint 55 is a lightweight back-packable travel bag with an adjustable carrying harness and detachable daysack. Plus, with the integration of the daypack, you have a built-in option for day trips where you don’t want a big bag. There are a few things that make the Osprey Farpoint 55 such a comfortable bag to carry no matter how long you’re on your feet.I use a Kestrel 38 which is a great size for carry-on but still rugged and comfortable enough for serious trekking. On my Old Farpoint 40, I bought an Osprey day series cinch bag and with the daisy chain I can attach it to either bag very well and better and easier than the regular daypack. The daypack can also be clipped to the front of the main bag so you can keep track of important papers/other valuables — although it does look a little funny.
