Book 4 in the series and kinda obvious I would like it as had enjoyed the previous 3 and happy to say I did! Every character experiences those traumatic events differently and as a loyal follower of their lives it’s captivating to find out what the war stricken reality holds for them. It’s September 1940 and with bombs raining down every night, the staff do a magnificent job of keeping the guests happy, even if it’s down in the bunkers. Raymond De Guise is on leave from the army after Dunkirk and the distance between himself and his wife, Nancy seems to be growing.

And if you haven’t already read ‘One Enchanted Evening’ or ‘Moonlight Over Mayfair’, now’s your chance – there’s plenty of time to catch up with them before ‘A Christmas to Remember’ comes out – enjoy! Home on leave and still reeling from the tragic events at Dunkirk, the dashing Raymond de Guise struggles to define his role in this new world, and to do his duty both to his country, and his beloved wife Nancy- who needs him now more than ever. Raymond,on sick leave takes up a position with the ARP, in an endeavour to continue doing his bit for the war effort. It was daunting to see the first two pages were a list of the characters in the book, and it did take a good chunk of the first stave (book was split into 8 sections or staves) to get my head around them all. The writing gives you get the feel of London in the Blitz, the good, the bad and the downright ugly side that shows people at their worst, making money from the misery of war.I loved the camaraderie, the sense of togetherness they have, facing each new crisis with either a laugh and a joke or drying tears over a soothing cup of tea. It's set at the beginning of the second World War, and tells of the trauma of signing up, the sadness of those left at home, all manner of happinesses, and how the Buckingham Hotel fares during war time. If you’ve already purchased tickets, the box office at the venue will be in touch to advise about new dates… and if you haven’t already booked – no time like the present: treat yourself with something special for when all this is over! Anthony Paul Beke (born 20 July 1966), known professionally as Anton Du Beke ( / d uː ˈ b ɛ k/), is a British ballroom and Latin dancer, author and television presenter, best known for being a professional dancer and a judge on the BBC One celebrity dancing show Strictly Come Dancing.

I thought this series had ended as after Book 5 we had the authors new series appear, but no Book 6 then arrived…. Completely unscripted, improvised, and with some fabulous song and dance numbers, these exclusive seven shows are going to be intimate evenings with me, my wonderful band, and some special guests including my very good friend and star vocalist, Lance Ellington.Do keep tabs on our Events page as we’ve some wonderful dance breaks lined up – a Christmas special with Donahey’s, and fabulous weekend breaks with Warners and Donahey’s in Spring/Summer next year. Let the nation’s favourite ballroom dancer waltz you through the outbreak of war and beyond as Hitler’s advances across Europe threatens to disrupt the lives and shatter the dreams of those working within the dazzling, opulent hotel that is The Buckingham. I loved getting to know the characters and despite not having read the others, it didn’t hinder me too much.

While he danced during the evenings and at weekends, he had a day job as a salesman in "The Bed Post" in Petts Wood, South London. We have also listed the titles of the Anton Du Beke books in case you would prefer to look for the one you're after by title. Those who survived Dunkirk, including Raymond de Guise and Billy Brogan, are struggling to come to terms with their injuries and the loss of comrades. This latest book gives us a glimpse into the past where we find a young Raymond struggling at the very beginning of his dancing career when dancing competitions were the main focus in his life and winning was all important! The hotel receives a new manager who is of ‘advancing years’, and the staff as a result have no confidence in his ability to steer them through these difficult times – particularly as families start evacuating and high society start fleeing the city.
