About this deal

It cannot be done at speed or with the steam plate left in one area too long…if it is, there is a possibility of damaging the ceiling or wall behind it and also the risk that the artex® will liquefy and run everywhere. I think the reason this didn’t work is that our artex had about a million coats of paint applied to it and the water just couldn’t soak through all that paint. You will also need a sharp scraper - I bought the one from Tool station but it was rubbish so I bought the one from Screwfix which was really good (see photo). The asbestos removal technique is removing the asbestos Artex with minimal damage to the concrete surface.

Developed to enable easy removal of Artex from walls and ceilings both around the home or in the workplace. Asbestos Artex (Textured Coatings) usage was well under way in the 1970’s and 1980’s especially between 1976 and continued heavily until 1984.

Some textured coatings, mainly sold and applied before the 1990s, may contain harmful substances such as asbestos fibres. Plaster overskimming: Instead of using plasterboard it may be possible to simply seal with PVA and plaster over the old Artex. Jess has acted as an asbestos expert witness in legal cases and is involved in many asbestos educational activities throughout the UK. Formulated by Eco Solutions from the most advanced, patented water-based technology using ” science not solvents”.

We then recommend applying another layer of X-Tex which will work into the score marks and help remove the paint from behind. I had success with artex remover gel by painting it on, covering it in cling film in the morning, and then before going to bed, gave it another coat and reapplied the cling film. The surface to which the asbestos Artex is applied will determine the way in which it can be safely removed and that in turn will affect the cost. Trade Strip X-Tex is an excellent Artex remover and allows for removing textured coatings such as *Artex® without causing dust from harmful asbestos fibres. Artex was applied to thousands upon thousands of houses from 1970 to 1990 because it was so much cheaper and easier to apply than plaster.

Below you will find detailed information which will help you understand what cost is relevant to you and why. Most artex® has been painted over the years with various coats of emulsions and this does need to be removed before you can start removing the artex®.
