The author was kind enough to warn readers that this book contains sexual assault and I know many readers appreciate that fact.

This wasn’t a very happy story until you get to the epilogue because the characters deal with so much heartache. Her dream is it to get into Vanderbilt College and to make a great life for her and her little brother! With the majority of the students treating her horribly, it seemed like everyone was against Ava except for one, a mysterious admirer who wrote Ava letters. First time reading this author, and I was happily impressed as I couldn’t seem to make myself put it down. Ava hates the Sharks, also known as the popular boys that rule the school, because she suspects that one of them was the one that raped her a year before. Dating one of the Shark players offers Ava a taste of their world when she attends a bonfire but all that ends before it began and once again Ava is left standing on her own. Knox was a tough cookie to crack, but underneath all that tough exterior, he was simply in love with Ava and went above and beyond to not only make her happy, but to help her in anyway possible.

The growing relationship between them and the others, besides their own growth as people, is wonderful to read and you eat each word like a starving person! Although this story took place when they were seniors in high school, this didn’t seem like an average young adult/new adult romance book.

This book is not recommended for anyone younger than 18 because deals with issues of rape, drugs, suicide, and depression.
