He published a large collection of biographical works, primarily of his hunting expeditions, and listed the 1,143 fincas or hunting estates that existed in Spain at the time. Serving in Burma, British Somaliland, British East Africa and the Sudan, Stigand was a keen big-game hunter who took greater risks than most hunters and often came close to being fatally injured.
