A blackmailer and seducer, Erica also targets Patrick’s business associate Nick Foote and Nick’s wife, plus another couple. stars —I have had a love-hate relationship with Shari Lapena’s books (rating them between 1 and 4 stars) but am always intrigued enough to read her next book. Yes, of course, I guessed some big plot twists almost from the start, but part of the fun here is watching how everything is going to unfold. I liked twists, gripping, breathtaking writing and as my final decision I’m giving my fiery, nerve bending, shocking, jaw dropping five stars. view spoiler) [So Stephanie goes from all "wringing hands is he lying to me, should I believe him or Erica" to "welp guess I've got to kill him" and everyone is just fine with this?

I will gladly continue reading books by Lapena because I enjoy her solid writing, I just wish the endings brought a little more to the table. Patrick is afraid his job–and his reputation–will be at risk if he doesn’t put an end to Erica’s questioning immediately. Shari Lapena proves yet again that she is the mistress of the pacy plot, cliff edge tension and menacing suburban claustrophobia. But the seeds of suspicion have been sown, and Stephanie begins to mistrust her husband, and to investigate his past herself. The beauty of Shari Lapena’s meticulous plotting and suspenseful narrative ensures that the reader is kept guessing right to the end!Shari Lapena is the internationally bestselling author of the thrillers The Couple Next Door, A Stranger in the House, An Unwanted Guest, Someone We Know, The End of Her, Not a Happy Family, and Everyone Here Is Lying, which have all been New York Times and The Sunday Times (London) bestsellers. Even more so when a volatile ghost from the past turns up at his New York office: Erica is her name, blackmail is her sport, and she is used to getting her own way. But I didn’t feel I knew Stephanie (or any of the other main characters) any better at the end than the start of the story. The babies are a handful, but even as Stephanie struggles with the disorientation of sleep deprivation, there’s one thing she’s sure of: she has all she ever wanted.

Another unputdownable suburban thriller with the finest love-to-hate characters and a wickedly paced mystery. Stephanie believes Patrick when he says it was an accidental death, but she starts to suspect there is more to the story. The prologue leaves the question of Patrick’s supposed guilt hanging in the air and from there that remains the book’s enduring mystery. Throughout the book, you are not sure what the character’s motivations are and what he really intends to do, which keeps the plot unpredictable. Into this mix enters Erica, dropping by Patrick's office to let him know she is back into his life, cozying up to Stephanie in a very threatening way, saying things to implicate Patrick in the death of his first wife, who died in a car accident.

Her thrillers A Stranger in the House, An Unwanted Guest, Someone We Know and The End of Her were all Sunday Times and New York Times bestsellers. Despite these flaws, the fast pace will keep those fond of mischief and murder in suburbia turning the pages. The end of the film is supposed to indicate that Theodore has overcome the crippling insecurities that were stimulated by the failure of his relationship with Catherine. The alarm is still shrieking, but it’s not the one in the kitchen that’s going off, she realizes – it’s the alarm upstairs.

And if the plots in the author’s other books are equal to this one, Shari Lapena could become my guilty pleasure. Despite these hard times, Stephanie and Patrick know that these trying times will not last forever, they just have to stick together. After a quick glance to check that Teddy is content, Hanna stands up and walks down her porch steps. Well, Erica is not only blackmailing this couple, she may ruin another two couple’s lives, too, with the powerful information she may use as her leverage. Once I knew what was about to happen and the direction the plot was going to take, I just despaired.Thank you to Edelweiss, Shari Lapena and Pamela Dorman Books for this free digital ARC, in exchange for my honest opinion! This utterly riveting psychological thriller hurtles along at breakneck speed, never giving you the opportunity to catch your breath. Hemos leído Su último día en el Club de lectura virtual Se ha escrito un crimen y en las metas de la lectura conjunta uno de los símiles más repetidos ha sido “película de Antena 3”.

Sure, he may seem sincere, and come on, how many people can honestly claim they’ve not made any dumb choices in the past? I have a question to the readers of this book: did you fantasize six million ways of getting rid of shameless slut Erica by giving her slow and the most torturous death and keep thinking to hire John Wick for his impressive knife throwing skills? and reminded me of one of my least favorite characters in all the land (Amanda in David Bell’s The Request). With a novel and an ending that taps into present day concerns and fears, The End of Her made for a satisfying read.
