Thankfully, Here to Slay brings a bit more control to the proceedings, with the beautifully cute creatures here – rather than simply being put in play to fill a ‘stable’ – forming RPG-style parties and slaying oversized monsters. When playing in a smaller group, we always found challenges to be in desperately short supply, so were delighted to have an extra couple to unleash on our opponents.When activating an ability, you have an RPG-style difficulty score to meet or exceed by rolling two 6-sided dice. The base game requires you to collect either 3 monster cards, or one hero of every class (6 in total). Whether you enjoy fighters, bards, wizards, or thieves, you'll find a party leader that's right for your play style - but choose wisely, because you only get one party leader for the whole game!

Any time you want to use an ability, you roll these dice and if the score is high enough, you activate the ability. But with the Warrior and Druid expansion cards, trying to collect 8 heroes was a much better challenge and enabled a fairer contest. The hero cards are a combination of the cutest woodland animals with the cutest little faces but you wouldn’t want to mess with them! Whether you need to recover from a low roll or sabotage the high roll of an opponent, modifier cards can be a handy tool when luck doesn't seem to be on your side. It is one of those games where I feel like I could easily explain to others that had not played before.

Taken for what it is – a light, fun and interactive game that you can teach to almost anyone, I don’t hesitate to recommend Here to Slay. The new heroes are just as cute and amusing as their original predecessors and add great new powers to your army.

The base game provides 6 Party leaders, but with an additional 2 Party Leaders provided in this expansion, this raises the maximum to 8 players in a game. Though hugely popular – in thanks due to its superb visual design and excellent production values – I’ve never really been a fan of TeeTurtle’s Unstable Unicorns.Modifiers throw a spanner in the works by adding or subtracting to a roll; players can play these on themselves to improve their roll or on other players to make them fail. Fighting monsters, playing item cards to help, and ultimately, betraying your friends to climb to the top and claim victory.

There’s not a lot of risk riding on a game purchase like this, so if it sounds interesting to you, I say go for it and you won’t be disappointed. If you’re like me, and apparently incapable of rolling anything greater than a 7, you’d be delighted to know that these cards are for you. In this game, you’ll assemble a full party of heroes to slay dangerous monsters while working to avoid the sabotage of your foes. The game also includes items you can equip to your heroes, 1v1 challenge cards, and roll modifiers to tip the odds in your favour.Don’t let the fact that the game came from Kickstarter put you off, the entire campaign was run to perfection and you can tell that from the moment to open the box, with a small magnetic clip to open the lid and the plastic moulding around all the cards and dice, plus the artwork is to die kill for! This holiday expansion pairs with the Here to Slay, a strategic roleplaying game from the creators of Unstable Unicorns. There are also magic cards and upgrade cards that are usually highly interactive, as interfering with other players is a core part of the game. If the challenging player gets the higher roll, the card that the opponent was playing gets discarded.
