About this deal

It was actually quite a simple and straight forward build – the wheel mechanisms are quite ingenious, but for the most part, it wasn’t a particularly challenging build, and would suit those new to LEGO, making this an idea introduction to Creator Expert vehicles. The red handle is held into place to ensure the mechanism added for the wheels in bag three is aligned correctly. I liked the Ideas version from a decade ago, but in all honesty that was far from perfect, so this new Creator version is very tempting as it looks perfect!

With only two minifigures and over 1800 pieces, the BTTF Time Machine (10300) has a brick-to-minifig ratio of 936. The light is bright and noticeable, and having it as press-to-activate play feature means you’re not in danger of accidentally leaving it on to drain the battery. There's some brilliant construction here that creates the flux capacitor from a grappling hook which allows the use of a light brick to illuminate the enclosure.Since the set is primarily aimed at the adult target group, it comes in the usual black packaging with the 18+ note. You can see that in action here – while they open up just fine, there isn’t enough friction to counterbalance the weight of the doors, and they’ll drop closed when you release them. The instruction manual provides some bits of trivia along the way, giving fun insights into the car and the film’s production.

Here’s a comparison against previous Deloreans, the mid-sized one is the 2013 Cuusoo version, and the mini version is from LEGO Dimensions. The back of the box shows off the DeLorean as it was seen at the end of the first movie, and throughout the Back to the Future Part II film. If you look, though, you’ll notice that the word “DeLorean” doesn’t appear anywhere – the vehicle is just referred to as “Time Machine”.Each configuration also holds your build in an optimal position to ensure you can appreciate both the intricate elements of your build, and the bespoke case background. There’s also a nice bit of complex SNOT building near the wheel wells that integrates closely with a large arch brick. You might want to hold off on putting that license plate in if you’re not going to leave it in place. Fans of Back to the Future are sure to become very happy when seeing this comprehensive LEGO Back to the Future set. I also tried to go back in time to start over when I flubbed up a section, but turns out I don’t have that ability.
