Description

At the end of last year I saw a job advertised that was very much the answer to a question I had been asking myself in 2014. As I've already mentioned I throughly enjoyed this rather different look into the world of that loveable scamp William Brown and his band of Outlaws.

Jeffrey Lockhart narrates the novel (the first-person narration is key to making this a more accessible book than some) as he visits the Convergence, a remote facility in which his billionaire father, Ross, has invested heavily. This is the only full-length William book (the others being made up of short stories) and was based on Val Guest's screenplay for the 1947 film of the same name.Scruffy, mud-stained and mischievous, William is a lovable scamp whose hilarious pranks usually end in disaster - for his harassed elders at least. This is the only full length Wiliam Book, and is based on Val Guest's screen play for the 1947 Film. He has been described by some as a seer for his ability to tell us not only where we are but where we might be heading. This novel might appear to be ice-cold on the exterior but it manages to include an ending of such warmth that I couldn’t help but look back on what I had just read and think about the human heart that was beating throughout.

The book is on my shelves and will be carefully packed and posted from the pastoral paradise of Peasedown St. This collection of stories follows the adventures of that irrepressible and ageless schoolboy William Brown. Martin Jarvis portrays the whole gang in this riotous comedy that leaves William teetering on the brink of disaster and success. It had quite a different tone to it from the short story collections, almost to the point of feeling like a Famous Five novel in places. Written by Matthew Barnes and Jonathan Massey, it saw William, The Outlaws and Violet Elizabeth enact the story themselves as a play within a play; using childlike takes on physical theatre, puppetry and music. In their quest to earn enough money to become tramps, they stop at no amount of do-gooding, embarking on a plan to marry off their older brothers.
