Disc 2 kicks off with The Communards’ chart topper ‘Don't Leave Me This Way’ before a string of massive number ones from Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Duran Duran, Soft Cell, The Human League, Culture Club and the party staple ‘Come On Eileen’ from Dexys Midnight Runners. Celebrated hits from Tina Turner and Blondie precede legendary Pop from Sinitta, Hazell Dean, Tight Fit and Baltimora, before Stars On 45’s salute to ABBA and bringing the disc to a close with UB40’s enduring ‘Red Red Wine’. By 1981, the influence of dance-floor was still felt on the charts and on the 12” singles of the year, but by a huge number of artists enjoying their first hits and across many different genres.

By the late 80s, club culture informed and popularised a huge number of new styles of dance music including House, Eurodance, Jack-Swing, Techno, and an evolution in Soul… the final disc highlights some of the best from the end of the decade. The epic ‘This Corrosion’ from Sisters Of Mercy starts CD3 in grandiose style – and is followed with atmospheric masterpieces from Siouxsie And The Banshees, Bauhaus, The Cure and a second appearance from Joy Division – before some late-80s Alternative essentials, including Bjork’s band The Sugarcubes, Act, The Mission, All About Eve, The Cult’s ‘Edie (Ciao Baby)’, ‘This Is England’ from The Clash, and The Fall’s version of ‘There’s A Ghost In My House’, before closing with two more great examples of U. LP1’s first side showcases this diversity: Kicking off with Eurythmics stunning ‘Beethoven (I Love To Listen To)’, and Propaganda’s magnificent debut ‘Dr.Post-Punk New Wave exploded on to the charts, and The Associates, The Jam, Echo And The Bunnymen, Pretenders, and Siouxsie’s side project The Creatures are all included. Phil Collins was also responsible for producing Frida’s ‘I Know There’s Something Going On’, included here in its full-length version. I was 11 in 1980 so my teenage\formulative years were music wise heavily influenced by this period of my life particularly 1983-1986, I have loads of these collections along with complete sets of release by many 80's artists. Disc Two pays tribute to the 80s dancefloor classics that fused genres to create breath-taking originality and new styles - often reflecting changes in new technology and capturing the fashion of the era. Across 4 CDs, 45 extended, full-length or remixed versions – 44 of which appeared on 12” singles, and 1 (Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark) which although released on a 10” single, admirably fits the criteria. Post-Punk Pop exploded on the charts of the early 80s, and The Associates and The Stranglers feature, as do The Adventures ‘Broken Land’ and Marc Almond’s ‘Stories Of Johnny’ – both amazing songs. K. was dancing to the Brit-Funk of Linx with ‘You’re Lying’ and the relaxed Dub explorations of UB40, with two of their early 12”s included.

CD2 presents the best of 82 Disco-Pop from Carly Simon with her Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards produced hit ‘Why’, plus Electro from Rockers Revenge feat. Disco, Funk and Soul lead the way on CD3, featuring massive floor-fillers from Shalamar with ‘A Night To Remember’, ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ from The Boys Town Gang and an extended remix of ‘Do You Wanna Funk’ from Patrick Cowley feat.Big Audio Dynamite, Julian Cope and XTC are also included before the collection draws to a close with Latin Quarter’s ‘Radio Africa’ – and Scritti Politti’s 1981 single ‘The “Sweetest Girl”’. Blue Monday’, considered the biggest selling 12” of all time, was remixed in 1988, and became a huge hit again. The final side opens with the song that launched one of the defining bands of the era, The Smiths, with ‘Hand In Glove’. Sylvester… and we’ve also included some huge club tracks from Barbara Pennington and Sheryl Lee Ralph, along with the catchiest Dance-Pop from London Boys and Laura Branigan.
