Every man is born with just one thing: his sovereignty - his power to respond to his environment and his circumstances.

If you are a man I challenge you to read this book and not feel a little guilty that you paid so little for it! He has previously worked as a technical advisor at the Presidency of the Republic of Senegal, and is Programme manager at the West Africa office of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. It has now become his life’s mission to help men across the planet step more fully into their roles as protectors, providers, and presiders over themselves, their families, their businesses, and their communities.

When your favorite sports star pulls off an amazing play and you don’t know how they did it, you shout about it.

If you are interested in positive masculine ideals mixed with a healthy dose of stoic philosophy, check out this short book. I bought it because I wanted to see how it addressed the assault on men and masculinity currently underway in our culture and society. I was hoping for a modern update to the education I received from my grandfather, my father, my step father- this is definitely not that. The authors and editors investigate the transformation of the state through the practices of security governance - an effective way to question the evolution of authority and legitimacy of state violence, and the organisation of human societies. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too.

Perhaps the author is trying to meet the needs of his target audience, but not all men fine it necessary to use bad language. Given that the great conceit of Western forms of sovereignty is that it controls and determines everything within its boundaries, we see that the advent of the Anthropocene gives a new and terrifying power to sovereign authority. It has now become his life's mission to help men across the planet step more fully into their roles as protectors, providers, and presiders over themselves, their families, their businesses, and their communities. This book addresses the links between war, state and sovereignty using an interdisciplinary approach. Our society, particularly in the West, is diseased, and that's obvious to those paying attention and being honest with themselves.I felt like the beginning of this book was great and was excited to read about Ryan’s thoughts on being a sovereign man. Recognizing ourselves as such subjects allows us not only to rethink politics, but, more profoundly, to envision sovereignty as the means by which we each rejuvenate ourselves and the polities we constitute with others.

You don’t have to look very far to recognize that men don’t seem to possess the same amount of vigor and purpose they once did. In this compelling, inspiring, and at times provocative book, Mabry urges us to stop taking sides and refuse to participate in tribalism by mapping out a way to hold in tension truths that we so often divide over. In an era marked by widespread food insecurity and escalating concerns about climate change, Translating Food Sovereignty: Cultivating Justice in an Age of Transnational Governance by Matthew C. Ryan comes across not as a learned scholar (a la Jordan Peterson in 12 Rules for Life) or some hollow ideologue/influencer (we all know them for their trademark loquaciousness without any citations or credibility) but as that slightly more motivated peer we all know, which makes Ryan all the more relatable and his challenges seem attainable. If you read the title for this book and think, "finally a book that says some real sh*t and has a real path to figure out life", prepare to be disappointed.
