There are plenty of spots at the court for you to take, plenty of rewards to gather if you can just get him to look your way! This deluxe Collector's Box is designed to fit Paladins, City of Crowns, and all additional content, such as promos, metal coins, and sleeved cards.

Trying to determine the best place for your workers as well as when to capture workers is now more complicated. There are so few euro games at all, let alone worker-placement games, that play up to six, so it’s a fantastic option if you have a bigger group.

I felt real nostalgia and happiness when the game evoked memories of playing Stone Age, and I’m a really big fan of simple actions in worker-placement games. Architects of the West Kingdom represents the start of a second series of games, (The West Kingdom Trilogy). You can capture a different group of workers from any (or the same) location, for every additional worker you have at the Town Centre. There aren’t any reference cards in the box (come on, why the hell not) and the first thing you do in play is draft your hand of buildings. The bot doesn’t gather resources, except for marble, which is used for scoring, so something like money from the Tax Stand is instead placed back in the bank.

The traditional worker placement mechanics have been spiced up with constant acceleration and an aggressive aspect not usually seen in these games. The “bot” (for want of a better term) doesn’t collect or use resources to construct buildings, but still has a lot of cards that send it to resource-gathering locations. It is clear to see that Architects of the West Kingdom shares similar aesthetic ties to one of Shem Phillips’ other popular game series, the North Sea Trilogy. This can range from gaining money and other resources to building part of the cathedral or another building.I've seen conflicting opinions for this online, some say it works great as a solo game, others say you need to play with 2 AI players and I've seen people say it isn't too great as a solo game at all. The game also came with a way to take back workers and with a clever mechanism of both timing and push-your-luck, which Architects also has. Especially since workers don’t leave prison after a reset, you can do multiple triggers with the same crew if you plan ahead. The tax stall, which gets populated with a portion of all the money spent in the game, works like the way everyone misremembers free parking working in Monopoly.

The solo version of the game is well worth playing if you have a hankering to play but you don’t have the players. It doesn’t take long to realise, however, that unlike in other worker-placement games, you don’t pick your workers back up. It’s a fresh take on worker placement, building further on Raiders’ already stellar offering, and is able to boast the same elegance in design as its predecessor but with a snappier speed. Perhaps what is most unusual is that the bot player is it can be used for a two-player game as well, creating a third player to act as an antagonist and additional blocking player, which I think is great! You can never truly know how much of anything you’ll need until the game is reaching its conclusion and so why not insure yourself against scarcity? If however, you’re like me and you sometimes like messing with your opponents and don’t mind if they mess with you, then the solo mode is definitely going to be up your street. Architects of the West Kingdom takes a typical Eurogame and gives it a shot of red-blooded Americana.
