About this deal

Bates begins her book with a list of times where she knows she was assaulted or a target of blatant sexism. I am in awe of Laura Bates and her ability to perfectly balance facts and her personal experiences, opinions and emotions. FIX THE SYSTEM, NOT THE WOMEN no fue el primer libro de feminismo que leí; sí el que más me ha marcado hasta ahora. She has written for the Guardian, the Independent, the New Statesman, Red Magazine and Grazia among others.

This was another great exploration of misogyny and every day sexism, it made me angry (but if it doesn't I am concerned for you! Kali ini pilihanku jatuh kepada buku barunya Laura Bates yang berjudul Fix the System, Not the Women. The fact that only a quarter of the Cabinet are women might just explain why working mothers lost their jobs at far higher rates than fathers during the Covid-19 pandemic, and new mothers were forced to give birth alone while pubs were allowed to open.Ik kan dit boek aanraden voor allen die het grotere plaatje willen inzien, het systeem in plaats van enkel het individu. It was brutally honest, not to mention sickening to read, but I was so glad I pushed through, because I felt like I needed to, and I feel that this book is equally important to men and women alike.

Bates also reminds us that if we want to tackle oppression in one sphere, we need to be aware of its overlap with others. This is factual information which is clear and accessible to everyone, and I'm thankful to Laura Bates for yet again, standing up for women. But it is nobody else’s to take it away from you, to deny, dismiss, belittle or obliterate with well-meaning platitudes or sexist, outdated excuses. The saga of Boris Johnson and Brexit frequently crops up in this author's narrative as a vivid, if Lilliputian instance of the same phenomenon.

And it’s sad and infuriating reading all these stories of abuse, harassment, abuse of power, exclusion, and rape.Vooral een inzending voor The Everyday Sexism Project greep me aan, een oudere vrouw die zich verontschuldigde: zij had al die grensoverschrijdende incidenten getolereerd, ze was stil gebleven. She encourages all women to make one, charting a life in sexism, from the playground to the street to the workplace. This book carefully goes through many aspects of society and the system that will make you cry, cringe and rage with anger.
