Just because she based the book off of a bible story does not mean that she did a good job writing this novel.

The theme of the story is based on the Book of Hosea from the Bible, where God told the prophet, Hosea to marry a prostitute. No matter how awful her choices were and how badly they hurt Michael, I still wanted to come to her defenses. Seriously, this really is like an Atari game in that you could easily divide the characters into two camps: good guys and bad guys.As soon as I began reading this book, I literally had two people message me to inform me that this book allegedly takes two forms: the 1991 version and the 1997 version. I mean, it's a little easier to do and really doesn't bring up a lot of the core issues because she had no choice in the matter, but nevertheless, he didn't seem terribly judgmental of her past. Relationships have to be about forgiveness to some extent, but I don't think you should forgive your wife for banging your brother on the side of the road for no apparent reason. All they saw was her beauty, a flawless veil wrapped around a frozen heart, and they were enthralled. There is a case of insta-love (as dictated by Jesus) and God saving a woman from a life of despair and prostitution.

Gomer was a "whore" and many scholars believe that she was not a prostitute before she married Hosea, but rather chose to commit adultery after they had married. I brought that swan back from Europe for you, and you throw it away on a child who has no appreciation for its value.

That is not in line with Scripture, where God does not love with an everlasting love those who deny Him. Angel is to be presented to a crowd of men, and she begins to wrestle in her mind and cries out to God internally. Also, it tipped over the edge more than once into sensationalism, ending in being more like a soap opera than like a story focused only on the redemption of a soul and a lifestyle. She feels a deep sense of shame at her "uncleanness:" she is moved by Michael's love but cannot see herself as worthy of it. Emotional, spiritual and physical intimacy make for better rounded characters I think and I felt short changed not to get all that.
