i 100% understood her burning desire for extremely high grades, and i related to a lot of her experiences and thoughts. I do like how Alice’s developing friendships with Henry and Chanel helped her integrate a bit more deeply into the school social life. Alice is the only scholarship student in this elite boarding school, and even then, her scholarship doesn’t cover the entire cost.

frustration grows as the semester ends, worsened by an award ceremony and encounters with her nemesis, henry.Special thanks to NetGalley and Inkyard Press for sharing this amazing digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions. the way he’s always trying to get on alice’s nerves was so adorable ahh the fact they were academic rivals but he has a photo of him and alice on his desk? I was initially quite interested in the concept of If You Could See the Sun, but the execution of its most compelling concepts — academic rivals to lovers, an interrogation of elite Beijing educational institutions, the supernatural element of invisibility — left me feeling incredibly jaded, leading to a rather half-hearted finish of the book.

it's absolutely divine, with a consistent flow that effortlessly captures the characters and their interactions. The plot was so easy to get caught up in but also focused heavily on these little moments between the two main characters, who I ended up really liking. I DIDN’T KNOW I NEEDED THIS BOOK AND NOW I LEGIT HAVE NO CLUE HOW I SURVIVED BEFORE I READ IF YOU COULD SEE THE SUN. the bonus chapters are to die for we see a lot of henry’s feelings for alice and i was blushing and kicking my feet and screaming into my pillow because it was all so.i kind of wish that they gave an explanation as to why she does turn invisible but i do undersstand that it's a metaphor for finding yourself but IDC IDC ANN LIANG SUPREMACY. I’m the luckiest person ever for the chance to have buddy read this with one my favorite people Cara! I didn’t mean this book is not enough thought provoking with strong messages like criticizing class differences, racism, inequality, poverty but the way of giving those messages was brilliant! If You Could See the Sun quickly made its way into my heart this year (as of writing this, it’s the only book I’ve read three times this year), so much so that I would say it’s one of my favorite books ever. But I like the class stuff tackled in the story, and I just wish the ending had packed a bit more punch.

I expected there to be more consequence, or at least more character development as a result of this experience. let me just take a moment to acknowledge that he's not only a fan of taylor swift but also incredibly kind to every single person he encounters. This had such an interesting magical realism element – although this book is set in the real world and feels like a contemporary, our main character does have the power of invisibility that adds a fantasy layer.the fantasy – or dare i say, magical realism – aspects played a bigger role in the story than i originally thought it would.
