Stating a case can obviously draw very strongly on the skills of telling a well-constructed narrative. And finally drive is the energy and passion to make things happen – especially in the face of adversity. I find it especially true that most books or people, when advising about transition into leadership - will always tell you to plan big, establish vision etc. This is not intended to be a full statement of all your rights under the Distance Selling Regulations. So as general counsel, there really is an important role you can play in trying to help the bottom line of the enterprise.

One book in particular that caught my attention was Act Like a Leader, Think Like a Leader by Herminia Ibarra. Interestingly one of the fundamental skills that Ibarra links to good leadership is the ability to tell stories – but not in the sense of covering ones back!
