You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The sound isn't low, however it definitely isn't something that you'd use at a party, get together, or if you just like really loud music, like I do. CONNECT IN SECONDS - Connect to your iPhone, iPad, any Android device, any Kindle tablet, Windows device, PC, or Mac with our with aptX and A2DP support. This will come in really handy if you’ll be holding a party, as a somewhat V-Shaped sound will be the most enjoyable one for a party.

The Aiwa Exos-9 is just that, and those looking for a speaker that can play loudly for a party indoors or out will be pleased by the speaker. At its release, the connectivity offered from the Exos 9 felt more than par for the course, but it has started to show its age, especially as we’ve seen a multitude of new Bluetooth versions in recent years, which have improved latency and connection distance. I purchased another one that was delivered the day I purchased this one but I forgot to log into my account. Have owned both a Denon and Marantz portable PA system for use strictly as a Bluetooth portable speaker for music playback when teaching a exercise class. While we’ve reviewed other boombox-style speakers, as I’ve mentioned, the Exos 9 is not really like one’s traditional boombox in style, even though it carries a lot of traits that we’re used to seeing from old-school boombox designs.

Not only did the Bluetooth signal hold with zero dropouts, but the sound quality was also excellent and distortion free. This current creates a magnetic field around the voice coil that expands and contracts at the same frequency as the audio signal. They were pretty big in the 90’s making a number of different audio products ranging from cassette players (remember those? Also, in the reviews below, I don't mean to infer that higher wattage means louder sound as I know this is not true.

These gaskets are also removable to get access to the mounting screws of the three drivers, but they, like the grille, are a PITA to put back on. Unfortunately the Aiwa Exos-9 has been available and then unavailable a few times and we haven’t seen it around for a little while again now. This being said, EXOS 9 has a battery and can be used far from an electric outlet, while Music Cast 20 is a little speaker that is meant to be used only near electric outlets, and it cannot be used portably. CONNECT ALL YOUR DEVICES: Connect your phone, tablet or PC via Bluetooth with aptX and A2DP support.Relevant for a number of years now, offering a fairly affordable solution to those needing big sound out of their Bluetooth speaker. The Exos-9 speaker housing is made of plastic, which doesn’t instill much confidence if accidentally dropped—and I didn’t want to test it. However, its lack of current technologies like AirPlay, Google Cast, or a built-in voice assistant make it tough to recommend to those looking to create a multi-room audio system in the home. This being said, there’s a lot more to talk about before we get to the sound, and one of the most important questions is about the input(s) of EXOS 9, and well, you have your selection of AUX and Bluetooth.

I do enjoy the Exos 9’s EQ capabilities, which let you adjust the sound signature using both presets or manually, letting you get the sound closer to your personal preferences. That time had come to arrive, 5 years ago with the introduction of the Aiwa Exos-9, and it's still in production today. Now, the sound could be described as being thick, warm, bassy, dynamic, punchy, smooth and pretty hard-hitting. In terms of sonic quality and performance, you won’t feel a big difference between AUX and Bluetooth, and you will be able to enjoy the speaker regardless of whether you’re using the bluetooth or the Aux input.

Auxillary input, USB Type-A Port to charge your device(s), and a Micro USB port for software/firmware updates. We’re used to seeing at least IPX4 protection on speakers of this nature and would like to see some sort of protection added in any future iteration of this speaker. At the end of the day the 2015 Exos-9 Portable Bluetooth Speaker by Aiwa may have begun to show its age but there’s no doubt that it’s still an impressive product worth our Golden Award.
