Description

Bulkowski also tells you exactly how to measure and identify patterns so you're not left squinting at your screen thinking, "Jeez, is that a Cup with Handle or a Double Bottom? Being a math and finance major, I will eventually get to it and determine the validity of his findings, but for now, and for all intents and purposes, it provides a VERY detailed analysis coupled with vast experience from the academic mind of an engineer. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

He enjoys writing fiction, chasing cars with his bicycle, watching flowers bloom in his gardens, woodworking, photography, and reading. Chart patterns are the basics behind most trading methods, and this book is a great achievement in a highly useful format. Pattern recognition is crucial, and knowing which patterns work best, and under what conditions is essential knowledge. Just to go over the great and not so great things about this 'bible' that I keep beside me on my night-stand, the first thing that comes to mind after perusing the pages for hours and hours using it to relate to my current portfolio is that he gives a wonderful guide to understanding, recognizing, strategizing in bull and bear markets and their corresponding statistics. Before earning enough from his investments to "retire" from his day job at age thirty-six, Bulkowski was a hardware design engineer at Raytheon and a senior software engineer for Tandy Corporation.

Within the pages of this book, youll learn how to identify chart patterns, supported by easy-to-understand performance statistics describing how well a pattern works, what the failure rate is, and what special quirks suggest better future performance. In roughly 1000 pages, it contains 53 chart patterns plus 9 more event patterns which will pretty much cover you for any chart you come across…. This definitive text includes new bull and bear market statistics, performance sorted by volume shape and trend, more than a dozen additional chart patterns, and a new section covering ten event patterns. I was a bit cynical about the author initially, but when you read his book and his web site you don't meet the "savvy trader" you expect, you meet an altogether much more interesting and amusing character. Even more interesting is the fact that he even includes Failures, busted patterns, and almost any variation of the pattern.

Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns, Second Edition also includes summary tables ranking chart- and event-pattern performance for easy reference; a glossary; a chapter on methodology explaining what each statistical table entry means and how it was calculated; and a visual index to make chart pattern identification a snap. Bulkowski is clearly a serious trader who has made groundbreaking statistical investigation of both charts and candlesticks a key part of his trading.

Personally I have always found it difficult to see chart patterns, so this defines them in a useful way. It would just be a bit nicer to have quick access to the most important information in validating the pattern like the average formation length, rather than rooting through 4 or 5 pages each time. He is not an expert on pattern formation but in software and unfortunately has identified patterns mainly by programme and with poor results.

Before earning enough from his investments to retire from his day job at age thirty-six, Bulkowski was a hardware design engineer at Raytheon, a senior software engineer for Tandy Corporation, and a software manager for Tracor-Westronics.I've gone ahead and created my own, but standardized, ready reference cheat sheets would be a great additional resource. I'm interested in anything which helps put probabilities on my side when trading and this is a book which is all about measured results.

The Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns, recognized as the premier reference on chart pattern analysis, extends its lead with this Second Edition.Within the pages of this book, you ll learn how to identify chart patterns, supported by easy-to-understand performance statistics describing how well a pattern works, what the failure rate is, and what special quirks suggest better future performance. I think this is one of the most comprensive books in chart patterns I ever read, I believe it is important to study this book as it helps me to analyze the chart patterns far better than other book. In addition the period covered was limited to five years only, and that in a market that was almost entirely bullish.
