On 12 April 2019, a tribute concert for Moore was held at The Belfast Empire Music Hall to help raise funds for a memorial statue. Throughout that time, he could be seen on the world s biggest stages, yet the real Gary Moore was always hidden in plain sight, giving little away. His books include Waiting For The Man: The Story Of Drugs And Popular Music, Shooting Stars: Drugs, Hollywood And The Movies, Jack Bruce: Composing Himself, Jimi Hendrix: Electric Gypsy, and biographies of Graham Bond and Alexis Korner.

There was another coded exchange in the Lizzy song Romeo And The Lonely Girl, in the line: ‘For all his good looks there were scars that he took. There are meetings with George Harrison, a couple of Sex Pistols, Albert King and BB King, and a band with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. The show provided a break into show business for many performers, including Alan King, Jonathan Winters, and Dorothy Loudon.During the supporting tour for Corridors of Power, singer John Sloman was also hired to share lead vocal duties with Moore, while Eyre was replaced by Don Airey. He reportedly suffered a heart attack brought on by a massive amount of alcohol he consumed prior to being found dead in bed.

During the 1980s, Moore transitioned into playing hard rock and heavy metal with varying degrees of international success. However, after a medical leave of absence, Lynott was asked to leave Skid Row by the band's bassist Brush Shiels, who had taken over lead vocal duties.Don Airey described him as a genius, while guitarist Bernie Marsden stated that "Gary could play literally any style".

Moore was often described as a virtuoso and has been cited as an influence by many other guitar players. He has been remembered with tribute gigs, posthumous releases and TV specials, but a balanced overview of his ever-twisting career has been lacking. He rejoined Thin Lizzy in 1978, replacing an injured Brian Robertson for an imminent American tour with Queen. By this time, Green had long since vanished from the music industry and was living the life of a recluse. When Moore was six years old, his father invited him onstage to sing " Sugartime" with a showband at an event he had organised, which first sparked his interest in music.
