His fourth solo album remains one of the most beloved in his catalogue and is full of with songs which have become all-time classics. But part of the fun of these reissues is the extra goodies that enhance the original songs and help the listener peer into the process of making music, and this is where the 50th Anniversary Edition excels.

Young is famous for his dedication to quality of sound, and the remastered tracks are predictably amazing, from the strings on “A Man Needs a Maid” to the steel on “Old Man” and the restrained jammy-ness of “Alabama. Green Day’s third studio album Dookie was released in February 1994, and has since sold over 15 million copies worldwide, including 10 million in the US (RIAA Diamond certified). The 50th Anniversary Edition will be released on triple-vinyl and triple-CD, both of which features the original album; a disc of three studio outtakes from the original Harvest sessions (‘Bad Loneliness’, ‘Journey Through The Past’ and ‘Dance Dance Dance’); and an unreleased live BBC solo performance. The Asylum Years (1972-1975) is the latest entry in Rhino’s ongoing, GRAMMY-winning series exploring the vast untapped archives of rare Joni Mitchell recordings — a project guided intimately by Mitchell’s own vision and personal touch. CD3 - "Harvest" Outtakes was recorded by Elliot Mazer at Quadrafonic Sound Studios in Nashville, Tennessee on February 6th, April 4th and February 7th respectively, 1971.Relistening to Harvest is also a good reminder of Young’s storytelling ability, from the morass of drug addiction portrayed in “The Needle and the Damage Done” (such devastation, told in just over two minutes) and the peak Neil Young melancholy found in “Words,” topped off with fiery guitar work. Additionally, the hardbound book will include never-before-seen photos along with extensive liner notes by photographer Joel Bernstein. After seemingly hundreds of years of different variations it is hard to say what the real Neil actually is but if you are going to start somewhere perhaps 'Harvest' is your best entry point.

Also included are three unreleased tracks from the original Harvest sessions: “Bad Fog of Loneliness,” “Journey Through The Past,” and “Dance Dance Dance. The hard bound book that accompanies the box sets includes 40 photographs, many of which have never been published before, and liner notes by Joel Bernstein. If there is a certificate we’ve missed out on then it’s probably for a 50 metre swim badge at the local swimming baths.
