About this deal

Imagine having three life-coaches who had been through the toughest mental and physical challenges; a crack team of problem-solvers who knew in their day job that one mistake could be the difference between life - and death. You need to go," I state through clenched teeth, willing my voice not to shake from the rejection blanketing over top of me.

I also loved all the little side stories to this one that made it a great, complete package – Cozy’s love of romance books by Mercedes Loveletter, her charcuterie board creations, Max’s involvement in LGBTQ+ charities, and Max’s three brothers who make a few appearances. This time, the burden of a toxic workplace environment and the acceptance of one’s sexuality can be seen between the torrid encounters of billionaire Max with his big younger nanny. Plus we got the classic ‘take a gulp of whiskey and spit it in her mouth so she can ‘try’ it’ scene. One problem: Max’s little girl thinks this plus-sized in body and spirit nanny might be her new bestie, so she hires her on the spot. All that changes when he meets Cozy his daughters new nanny who's motto is why do more when you can do less. I'm usually not the biggest fan of "let's bang out the attraction" storylines, but there was a lot more going on here, so it kept me hooked. I thought the age gap was going to be a lot but I suppose 8years is okay- I would have preferred a bigger gap but I enjoyed the story a lot! Now Max is stuck with this bizarre woman who hates everything he represents—corporate greed, money, status, power.

I get that she was plus sized and I appreciate that a character can have some insecurities that she can overcome through her character arc, but in this book it was overwhelming and incessant. The story follows Max, a successful businessman who is excited to have his daughter full-time for the summer. If you read Endurance, there was mention of a South African teammate of Tanner Harris named Roan DeWalt. The two make for a very compelling combination, and the boss/nanny/forbidden element really worked as well. Sure, we've gotten to see bits and pieces of Max throughout the series (absolutely not required reading), but I always pictured him as more of a serious businessman type.

First off, I LOVED seeing his friendship with his ex-wife, exes don’t always have to play the villains and I loved seeing the healthy coparenting here! One problem: Max's little girl thinks this plus-sized in body and spirit nanny might be her new bestie, so she hires her on the spot. She appears to be a very confident woman, yet, at the same time also experiences insecurities about her body, which I found very relatable. I thought her backstory was really unique and provided just enough angst to cause some friction between her and Max’s budding romance. I’m not someone who works out a lot but I don’t think it is necessary to think negatively about any body type or to use the heroes previous preference to compare to the heroine. Along the way, they’ll unlock wisdom for those of us navigating our own coupledoms, and for those still seeking their perfect match. I loved how none of the angst in this book was focused on Max’s ex-wife, and, instead, he’s got a genuine friendship with her.

But I did like how it all played out, they needed to get together early on to deal with some of the other topics and emotions later. Cozy Barlow is in the middle of her self-appointed “gap year” and doing everything she can to detach from her past. Bob Johansson has just sold his software company for a small fortune and is looking forward to a life of leisure. When Amy is not writing, she’s likely making charcuterie boards from her home in South Dakota where she lives with her daughter and husband. I realize he can get girls ten times hotter than me, but to act like I'm some kind of disgusting mistake is a degradation I can't stomach.
