I also wondered why we were following Frances, when it seemed like Clara might have a more interesting story to tell. Told from the perspective a young boy with two dads, the book navigates issues of bullying and the questions other kids raise about having two dads. Five children from different countries show us who they love and how to say 'I love you' in their own languages. but thinking back to when I was a child, and topics like this one were very confusing, I wish I'd had a book like this, to help me understand the world a little better.

If you’re in the mood for something more romantic, check out our poetic personalised book Ten Reasons I Love You. He speaks in plain terms about how he doesn’t like it when kids say that being gay is gross, or when people say “that’s so gay” to describe something negatively. That said, I appreciate very much the frank and positive look at the use of "gay" as a pejorative and the main character's embrace of the word as accurate and a compliment, and it was surprising and refreshing to see the book express to children that some gay people still try to pretend they aren't gay because others believe gay is something to be ashamed of.

I really enjoyed doing it and liked that I was able to save it each time I added some more photos and text. This prom was important for any LGBTQ+ teen in our county (from any high school, public or private) to have a safe place to enjoy a prom, with other LGBTQ+ teens, whether or not they were also attending the "regular" prom. He doesn’t like when people tell him he shouldn’t wear a shirt he loves to keep from being teased because that’s unfair. This would be a good book to read to children when they have questions about same-sex relationships.

It would be nice if nasty words were the only things that get hurled at the LGBTQ community and its supporters. However, this would be a great read for younger kids to begin to understand and accept members of the LGBTQ+ community. However, in the back of the book, there is an extensive resource to utilize that asks pertinent questions and gives other resources to use. Michael Genhart, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in San Francisco and Mill Valley, California.

In a number of discussions across cultures and the world, children of two dads dressed in rainbow heart t-shirts confide in friends that they’re being made fun of. Unless you're familiar with the author -- in this case I was not, as it's her debut novel -- there aren't many ways of telling what you'll think. The stories they share are what you would only spill to your closest girlfriends – the difference is, they share them with the entire nation. This is important for people to know its okay to struggle and sometimes you need to accept yourself before finding acceptance from others!p. 32 most kids glance at me/ look away/ their eyes sorry and/filled with pity but/ pity has no legs/ pity is pitiful/ still/ useless. A child can wear a rainbow t-shirt and stand up for their gay family and friends in much of the Western world without needing to fear for their safety. So whether you're cuddling with your child before bed or just want to relax with an adorable tale, we've chosen some books that are bound to make your storytime even more heartwarming than normal. This beautiful novel-in-verse covers a wide range of important topics and societal issues, such as bullying, mental illness and OCD, as well as the immigrant experience. I made a photo/story book for my granddaughter telling and illustrating the story of the adventures we had enjoyed together this summer.

This book talks all about how a girl feels like she doesnt fit in and her peers and family psh her down for it.Simultaneously it’s beautiful, filled with magic moments, which explore the creativity and imagination of children - the imagination adults seem to have lost in adulthood with all their boring tasks and chores and with meaningless hobbies. I got a little confused when the text narration stayed with the thoughts and experiences of the first character, but the illustrations changed to show children (and some adults) of differing races and cultures wearing that same shirt. In this beautiful novel in verse, a Chinese-American girl contends with school bullies, tries to solve the mystery of her sister's strange illness, and finds strength and validation at the local tennis court. Love Is Love shows that gay families are simply another kind of normal, and that all children value the love of family. This is a sweet and relevant story examining what it means to be an American, a sister, and your own self.
