Review: The fourth full-length from thrash metal titans Metallica has gone on since its original 1988 release to be heralded as the band's most progressive, vicious and artistic statement.

The eight-time Grammy winners release their highly anticipated 12th studio Album titled '72 Seasons'. Review: Following on from their iconic 1982 debut full-length Kill 'Em All, the sophomore effort from thrash metal titans Metallica would mark their turn towards not just darker but more introspective and dynamic songwriting.

Ride The Lightning, Metallica’s 6 x Platinum sophomore album will be released on Dec 1, 2023 pressed on 180g ‘Electric Blue’ vinyl, also featuring the 2016 remastered audio. Metallica's self-titled fifth full-length, subsequently dubbed 'The Black Album', still serves as the controversial bridging point from their iconic run of four definitive thrash metal classics throughout the 80's, to their more sporadic and messy 90s output. Earlier this year, the band scored a UK number one album with their latest studio record 72 Seasons, dominating the charts globally as they racked up an impressive 19 number 1’s across the world. If 2023 wasn't already looking exciting enough we have a brand new album from Metallica to look forward to.The Album features 12 brand new songs, produced by James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, and Rock producer icon Greg Fidelman (U2, Slipknot, Johnny Cash, Slayer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more). And Justice For All featuring the single “One” which earned the band its first Grammy award will be released Feb 2, 2024 as a double-disc set pressed on 180g ‘Dyers Green’ vinyl, featuring the 2018 remastered audio. Related Artists - Beatallica, Echobrain, Goudie, Kirk Hammett, Newsted, Systematic (US), The Moss Brothers, Voivod. With 77 diverse minutes, the Album offers every fan the opportunity to completely immerse themselves in the work. Produced by Greg Fidelman with founding members James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, and clocking in at more than 77 minutes, the 12-track album is Metallica's first full length collection of new material since 2016's Hardwired.

From the intense opening cut 'Battery' to the aforementioned and incomparable title-track, to the haunting 'Welcome Home (Sanitarium)', all the way to the epic instrumental monster 'Orion', this third LP took the promise of the band's preceding 1984 effort 'Ride The Lightning', and lofted it into the metal stratosphere. Guitarist Dave Mustaine (who went on to form Megadeth after being fired from the band) and bassists Ron McGovney, Cliff Burton (who died in a bus accident in Sweden in 1986) and Jason Newsted are former members of the band. Although garnering an internet revival of sorts thanks to the title-track's inclusion in the season four finale of Stranger Things (which subsequently lead to a meeting between actor Joseph Quinn and the band who would bequeath him a guitar), any metalhead worth their salt will tell you how this album never strays too far from their blackened (no pun intended) heart. Marking their first work following the tragic passing of bassist Cliff Burton, the album has become controversial for its notable muting of (at the time) newcomer Jason Newsted's performance, yet it's immensely difficult to ignore a project that boasts some of the band's finest material, from the breakneck paced opener 'Blackened' to the grooving intensity of 'Harvester Of Sorrow' to the Johnny Got His Gun based psychological metal ballad 'One'. It also doesn't hurt that the tracklist boasts literally some of the most well known and iconic cuts of their career, from the opening classic 'Enter Sandman' to the hefty groove of 'Sad But True', to more melodious fare like 'The Unforgiven' as well as the timeless ballad 'Nothing Else Matters'.

Its recording took place at One on One Studios in Los Angeles over an eight-month span that frequently found Metallica at odds with their new producer Bob Rock. Ask a Metallica lifer what's truly the group's finest moment, and any worth their salt will point you towards .
