About this deal

The steel is a new recipe for me using Scale 75 Eclipse Grey > Scale 75 Anthracite Grey > Scale 75 Behring Blue > GW Fenrisian Grey > Scale 75 White In our How to Paint Everything series we look at how to paint well, everything, talking about different assembly methods, techniques, and colors used. In today’s How to Paint Everything, we’re covering a Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar double threat: Be’lakor, the first Daemon Prince, as painted by Daniel “Skails” Rodenberg.

To sum up: the only valid way to do paint compatibility charts is with actual physical samples, either by eyeballing or with colorimeter (if you have samples side by side you can utilize digital camera with RAW mode as a colorimeter). All other tools are very limited novelty. When I took on Custodes I was happy that the person who I painted them for wanted something other than the classic gold. As much as I love a really nice rich gold colour, I find it pretty overwhelming on the Custodes models. Instead, I went for a striking red-dominated scheme, with darker bronze metallics. Averland Sunset: This warm, golden-orange paint is a great choice for adding a touch of warmth and energy to models painted with Incubi Darkness. It can be used to highlight edges and recesses, creating a sense of dynamism and movement.

Sybarite Green where it makes sense on the cloth – this is a bit of an art, but you want to put some lines to give it some definition. You can push these further with Skarsnik Green if you want But it was a nice tutorial.. the ethereal cloak especially, since she is just using coelia for it and then waywatcher green to get some green effects.. So I know, from that video alone, that coelia with blue and green glaze will work.. might not look spot on, but it will at least work.

Triad

The model was primed with Corax White from Games Workshop, which is a light grey primer. I recommend applying three or four thin coats for a perfect coverage without smothering any details with paint. Whether used as a base coat or for shading and highlighting, this paint is a versatile and essential tool for any hobbyist’s palette. What armies to paint with Incubi Darkness? Highlight almost the entire jewel with Ahriman Blue (leave some of the previous layer showing at the edges). Optional) Paint the armor with Satin Varnish to give it a nice sheen (pure gloss varnish is too shiny)!

I sort of assume that the effect of the bones showing through is done with some sort of fenrisian grey or light blue effect with some blending technique, so if you have thoughts on how they achieved that as well it would be much appreciated! That is actually quite perfect! Although she doesn't really go over what colors she is using while painting and the video is veeeery long The next step is the real secret sauce. I created a reasonably dilute wash with a mix of Golden High Flow Acrylics Sepia (pretty much a more concentrated Agrax Earthshade), Golden High Flow Acrylics Dioxazine Purple, and the product formerly known as Future Floor Polish (Now Pledge Floor Care Finish, unless they’ve changed it again.) I wash the entire model in this color, removing excess where it pools too much. If you are working with Games Workshop paints, a mix of Druchii Violet, Agrax Earthshade and water/lahmian medium will work just fine. You will, however, be spending a lot more money to wash an entire army of Custodes using this method. At this point the gold is complete. It’s simple, but has a nice rich depth and purplish warmth to it. The armor plates get edge highligting with Sotek Green, completing the classic Drukhari look, albeit with a more blue tint.
