Description

When she is given the opportunity to move to a remote tidal island off the Cornish Coast, Marisa Rossi decides some peace and quiet might be just what she needs. I found a few inconsistencies in this book. Every time a new character was introduced, they were first introduced by name without explanation. Then later the character was introduced with name + description which was unnecessary at that point. Lowin, Rueben and Kerensa's son, is introduced as being "almost 8" when it's nearly spring. Later it says his birthday is on Christmas which means he just turned 8. His birthday party, in summer, is his HALF birthday party. Jayden's wife is introduced as Florrie first and then later Flora. The repetition of character introduction could have been trimmed along with lots of subplot to make the book a bit shorter.

Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things): One thing I didn't notice when I read it but definitely noticed while listening is that there was very little profanity and G/PG love scenes. Not sure if this was deliberate or not but I really appreciated it. Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.

Whenever a new Jenny Colgan (or Milly Johnson) book comes out I promise myself that I will savor it THIS time instead of inhaling it like a greedy child. AND as always, I stayed up until 1:00am totally devouring it until I was finished reading. Now, a month later after finishing listening to Beth O'Leary's "The Road Trip", I got to listen to this awesome story. With each book, Jenny Colgan continues to hone her craft and each book just gets better and better. Well, with the caveat that "The Endless Beach" will always be my absolutely favorite Colgan of all time. I could relate to Maria's anxiety and fears. I've never been that extreme myself but I didn't leave the neighborhood or go indoors for MONTHS in 2020 even after things opened up a bit more. I can relate to being shy with noisy neighbors who drive one crazy and being at wit's end to get them to stop without talking to them. Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.

Retreating further and further from normal life, she moves to the end of the earth—the remote tidal island of Mount Polbearne, at the foot of Cornwall, hoping for peace and solitude, whilst carrying on her job as a registrar, dealing with births, weddings, and deaths, even as she feels life is passing her by. But Mount Polbearne is a far cry from the sleepy little place she was imagining. Between her noisy piano-teaching Russian neighbour and the hustle and bustle of a busy community, Marisa finds solitude is not so easy to come by. Especially when she finds herself somehow involved with a tiny local bakery desperately in need of some new zest to save it . . .Sunrise and sunset times, civil twilight start and end times as well as solar noon, and day length for every day of November in Saltburn-by-the-Sea.

Rueben and Kerensa are kind of throw away characters. They're obnoxious, more than ever now they have a kid. Rueben still throws money away like it's grass and Kerensa tries to keep up with the horrid mothers and rich witches. Neither of them set a good example for their kid. No wonder he's a spoiled brat. At first Lowin reminded me of Dudley Dursley but by the time his party rolled around, I could see he just wanted to be a normal kid. Lowin is rude to the twin who worship him. I understand. I've seen it go both ways with hero worship and acceptance or hero worship and rejection of the younger child. Lowin is too young to understand how to be fake nice to babies. Now having said that there were elements of the story that I did enjoy: the representation of Marisa's mental health struggles were eloquent and deep, the scenes about her family were beautiful and emotional and the neighbour character was interesting and well thought out. The day length shortens by 1 hour, 38 minutes over the course of November 2023, from 9 hours, 26 minutes on the first day to 7 hours, 48 minutes on the last in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, England. I liked Marisa and can relate to her feelings about her heritage and her family. Nonnas are kind, loving and welcome you into their kitchen to learn valuable life skills. They can be opinionated and critical and share their "advice" or "wisdom" but with grandchildren, they're not as tough as they were with their children. I didn't know my grandfather very well but I loved my Nonnie very, very much. Fortunately she died at 100 surrounded by her loving family and not alone but I still miss her. We talk about her often and bake her specialties, celebrate holidays with our family traditions and keep her memory alive.
