About this deal

Looking for a dress that will keep you cool this summer? Look no further. This crochet summer beach cover-up is easy to make and designed to be as airy and breezy as possible. The size can’t be beaten – this pattern is sized from XS to 5XL! Make a crochet summer beach cover-up you’ll reach for over and over again this season. Dress it up or dress it down with sandals and your favorite accessory–or of course, go barefoot on the beach! Tip: You may want to measure after you’ve made several rows of the pattern to ensure your gauge is correct. Your piece should measure approximately 36” wide. You may adjust hook size if you need to make your gauge larger or smaller. The thought to make a crocheted sarong cover-up pattern has been swirling around in my head for months and I finally hopped to it! I finished it just in time for my own summer vacation in fact. What I love about it is that you can wear it in so many different ways! It was certainly interesting to try and figureout how to make a fabric that’s light enough to be wrapped and tied without creating a lot of bulk. Byusing a large hook, beautiful Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton and a lovelydiamond mesh stitch pattern it worked out to be just that. Light, easy to tie, and fun to wear in an “infinite” number of ways. 😉It is totally my new summer vacation staple!

Who knew making a simple, airy rectangle could turn into a summer vacation staple? Enjoy! I’ve included measurements below in a size chart, and repeats are worked to length, not row counts. Pattern NotesI’ll be the first to admit, this sarong pattern does have some twists and turns to it. I definitely would not recommend this as a beginner pattern as it does include some shell and picot stitches that might be a bit confusing to someone just starting out. Row 2: Ch 2, turn, dc in first st, ch 3, dc in next st, *sk 1, dc in next st, ch 3, dc in next st,* repeat * to * across row. [32(34, 37, 40) repeats].

Please remember to refer to my Diamond Mesh Stitch Tutorial HERE for further help with the stitch used in this pattern! Conjure up some spells while you drape this spider web-like shape over your shoulders like a cape, go for an effortless look with it styled like a scarf with the point in the front, or bring out your inner free spirit by tying it as a sarong at your waist.IMPORTANT: the chain’s fully stretched length is the correct way to get the measurement. If the chain’slength is able tostretch past this measurement, it will be too large and loose when completed and won’t fit when you tie the ties around your hips. Turn work, slip stitch to first ch-3 space to attach yarn to first chain space, then Repeat Row 3 until piece measures 6”(6”, 7”, 7”), then break yarn and fasten off.

Just pull this fancy sarong around your shoulders or tie it around your waist and ta-da! you’re ready for your close up! Play with the length to create the perfect sarong for your tastes. Row 2 *Ch 5, sc in next ch 5 space; repeat from * across to end of row, work last sc in sc below, turn. There are many ways to wear a sarong and you can simply do a google search and see them all and give them a try. There are also great picture tutorials on exactly how to tie a sarong if you would like more visual assistance by googling “how to tie a sarong”.
