About this deal

The probably lowest known natural point is Vityaz Deep 1, at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, at -11,034 m (-36,201 ft) below sea level. The depth was measured by the Russian research vessel Vityaz in 1957 but never confirmed.

The origin of the name “Africa” is greatly disputed by scholars. Most believe it stems from words used by the Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans. Important words include the Egyptian word Afru-ika, meaning “Motherland”; the Greek word aphrike, meaning “without cold”; and the Latin word aprica, meaning “sunny.” About 1.75 million years ago, early man spread throughout parts of Africa. They became aggressive hunters, lived in caves and used fire and their ability to create stone tools just to survive. Island of Wonder: Madagascar, the fourth-largest island in the world, has a unique ecosystem where over 80% of its wildlife is found nowhere else on Earth.

A short distance east of this rift valley is Mount Kilimanjaro – with its two peaks Kibo and Mawenzi, the latter being 5,889m (19,321ft), and the culminating point of the whole continent– and Mount Kenya, which is 5,184m (17,008ft). Hardly less important is the Ruwenzori Range, over 5,060m (16,600ft), which lies east of the western trough. Other volcanic peaks rise from the floor of the valleys, some of the Kirunga (Mfumbiro) group, north of Lake Kivu, being still partially active. [1] This could cause most of the cities and states to be flooded with lava and ash.

In essence, Africa's physical and geographical map isn't just a representation of landforms, waters, and terrains; it's a narrative, a magnum opus of nature's artistry and time's relentless march. Each mountain, river, desert, and plain has tales whispered by the winds, sung by the rivers, and chronicled in the sands. Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania: The tallest peak on the continent, Mount Kilimanjaro encompasses multiple climate zones. A towering adventure for anyone. It is shown on the map of Africa.

The depth specifications are not definitive. Accurate measurement of the depth of the deep sea continues to be a challenge and has hardly been achieved so far. [ 3] The Denali in Alaska is with 6,190 m (20,300 ft) the highest mountain of the United States and North America.

The Pacific Ocean is, with an area of approximately 165 million km², the largest body of water; it lies between the Americas (North and South America) on the east and Asia and Australasia on the west. It is divided by the equator into the North Pacific and the South Pacific oceans. Its northern and southern boundaries are the two polar circles.

What Countries are in Africa?

The impacts of slavery on Africa are widespread and diverse. Computerized calculations have projected that if there had been no slave trade, the population of Africa would have been 50 million instead of 25 million in 1850. Evidence also suggests that the slave trade contributed to the long-term colonization and exploitation of Africa. Communities and infrastructure were so damaged by the slave trade that they could not be rebuilt and strengthened before the arrival of European colonizers in the 19th century. Of the rivers flowing to the Indian Ocean, the only one draining any large part of the interior plateaus is the Zambezi, whose western branches rise in the western coastal highlands. The main stream has its rise in 11°21′3″ S 24°22′ E, at an elevation of 1,500m (4,900ft). It flows to the west and south for a considerable distance before turning eastward. All the largest tributaries, including the Shire, the outflow of Lake Nyasa, flow down the southern slopes of the band of high ground stretching across the continent from 10° to 12° S. In the southwest, the Zambezi system interlaces with that of the Taukhe (or Tioghe), from which it at times receives surplus water. The rest of the water of the Taukhe, known in its middle course as the Okavango, is lost in a system of swamps and saltpans that was formerly centred in Lake Ngami, now dried up. [1] The mountains are an exception to Africa's general landscape. Geographers came up with the idea of "high Africa" and "low Africa" to help distinguish the difference in Geography; "high Africa" extending from Ethiopia down south to South Africa and the Cape of Good Hope while "low Africa" representing the plains of the rest of the continent. [9] The following table gives the details of the chief mountains and ranges of the continent: [1] Mountain
