About this deal

Chris Turnbull– a range of books largely set in the Victorian era, plus a World War Two novel and one set in late 19th century Paris Characters and events in the novel provide so many opportunities for pupil writing: diary entries, persuasive letters, annotated maps, fact-files, advertising brochures and posters, newspaper reports and magazine articles, descriptions and poetry, but again, that’s the teachers’ choice. I just write the stories and provide resources for teachers to use if they wish. I noted that you have done author visits to schools. What sort of thing do you do on these visits and how do pupils respond to them? Then Johan appears, he needed someone who could read the letter and map, and he finds Bertha. They can't understand each other but miming helps!

I have to admit, that while doing my research it was all too easy to scurry down rabbit holes. There were so many fascinating dramas and tragedies involving Titanic survivors in the years after the sinking, and I did have to rein myself in quite often. With stories such as The Titanic Detective Agency, how do you balance the facts and the fiction? In March, I did my first international author visit, and spent a wonderful three days doing workshops at the European School in Luxembourg, plus a lovely afternoon exploring the city. So grateful to the organisers for making it such an enjoyable visit. A fresh and compelling re-telling of the Titanic voyage—with a Scottish twist—by best-selling children’s author Lindsay Littleson. Based on real passengers and events, fact and fiction areOur Maths this week has some calculation based activities, and then a longer investigation. The instructions for this are there to help you through each ‘stage’ of the activity – most importantly DON’T PANIC!

We are finishing up our Titanic project this week, with a final piece of writing and a craft challenge! I’m hoping to put together the pictures of your work into a project book to show off everything we have studied about the ship, so please feel free to send pictures over to me. In 2014 she began writing for children and won the Kelpies Prize for her first children’s novel The Mixed Up Summer of Lily McLean. The sequel, The Awkward Autumn of Lily McLean, was published by Floris Books in March this year.

Lindsay Littleson - The Titanic Detective Agency Chapter 1

Simon Schama – an excerpt of a conversation about the way in which Historical Documentaries are produced Related Content The foreshadowing of the inevitable tragedy is peppered throughout the book, but my favourite is the tea-leaf reading scene early on and not only because my nan’s surname is Toomey. My aim was to create an exciting, engaging adventure story, one which would include interesting information the children might find less easy to access, mainly about the ordinary people on board the ship. This was the stuff I found fascinating, and knew would engage my readers. In ‘The Titanic Detective Agency’, Lindsay Littleson breathes life into real-life historical characters with an enthralling story of three young people who survive the maiden voyage of the doomed passenger liner, Titanic.
