Songs and movies that normally sound great might sound out of balance since the audio drivers are pushing the low end harder than normal. This might be great for gaming, but the bass in Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” was more accentuated so that the bass seemed as noticeable as the vocals. If troubleshooting sound problems doesn’t work, try uninstalling and re-installing the Corsair audio device drivers and iCUE:

There are bountiful reasons as to why a wireless gaming headset is a good decision. The most obvious being the freedom to get up and walk away from your desk at any time without dragging your PC tower off with you. A wired headset is hardly a hassle, but I'll admit it is nice to not have to keep taking my headset on and off every time I run off for a bathroom break or to grab a coffee between raid encounters. I've been testing a wired headset for the past few weeks, and so the Corsair's wire-free functionality has been a bit of a blessing. It does inherit its 2022 predecessor's overall design and look, which I think is elegant and modern but still gaming-inspired.

Big on features, but falls short on sound

Unlike the H65, the HS55 Wireless also doesn’t have app support. We tried to use it with the Corsair iCue software, and all it allowed us to do was link it with the 2.4GHz wireless transmitter, which was moot as they’re already linked. This means that you won’t be getting proper EQ privileges here. The big thing to know is that the device can’t accept simultaneous audio in the same way a more premium headset like the Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless can. You can only listen to one source at a time, but it will automatically interrupt game audio if a call comes through and restore it once you’re done. Audio Performance of the Corsair HS55 Wireless Core Those 50mm Neodymium audio drivers really do make games come alive, with every explosion or hit having a real robust sound. If there’s any criticism that we have with the performance of the Corsair HS55 Stereo, it is that the bass response can be a little strong. You might not hear it in your Discord or Facetime chat, but the problem is most notable with casual listening. NOTE: Prolonged listening at high volumes may adversely affect your hearing. The Corsair HS55 Wireless Core offers — or, tries to offer — a lot for a relatively low price. This wireless, over-ear gaming headset is one of a few that features dual-mode wireless connectivity, meaning it lets you connect to two devices (using 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth 5.2) simultaneously. Note though, that it does not support simultaneous listening from both sources the way the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro does. Regardless, this is a feature we don’t often see in less-expensive headsets.

How do you control the Corsair HS55 SURROUND?

The microphone sounds great, anyways, and that's what really counts here. I'm really impressed with just how clear the HS55's microphone is: the subtle tones and nuance of my voice's luscious timbre (in my opinion) come through accurately in testing, which you can listen to below. There's a surprising level of clarity in this mic, even in the lower ranges, and it's a really great solution for a budget headset. As i said audio is subjective so you may not like the software integrated 7.1 audio. But to me it is fabulous. Do not leave the battery fully discharged for long periods. Battery life is maximized by keeping the battery in a partially charged state. The sound quality is good overall, though not quite as rich and as full as we hoped. At default, there’s plenty of bass here, though perhaps not enough low bass extension to deliver that rumble you want from games and movies. There’s decent high end as well, but it’s a little rolled off so it doesn’t sound as crisp and detailed. The mid-range sounds a little recessed, particularly affecting the dialogue, which isn’t as crisp and clear. While you can still hear what the characters are saying, it sounds a little hollow.

Like when i was playing warzone 2 in a city, I could actually pinpoint the location of an enemy breaking a glass of an house 100 meters away from me. And you can easily decipher the distance of that enemy without any error. As for a story mode game you can feel immersed into the game. You can hear little sounds from the birds chirping to a rat moving through the grass. Corsair gives it better sound performance and more features for the same affordable price, which makes it a better value than before.

If you’re a PS5 owner, then it’s also useful to know that the HS55 supports Sony’s 3D Audio functionality, although you could argue that’s a given – pretty much every PS5-compatible headset offers this when connected to Sony’s next-gen gaming behemoth. Unfortunately, the newer HS55 Wireless isn’t quite as solid when it comes to the low end. In games like Control and Cyberpunk 2077, I’ve noticed that explosions and other sounds that require that rumble for maximum effect just don’t have it – unlike the older HS55 Wireless Core, which delivers enough of it to give you just a bit of that body-shaking immersion. Corsair has always had a reputation for creating clean-looking products, and the Corsair HS55 Stereo conforms to that ideal. My review sample was of the white and silver colour option, which gives the headset a modern look.
