The Gallery collects new and recent art in a variety of media and styles, currently developing a collection of art on the themes of conflict, peace and reconciliation. Temporary exhibition spaces have hosted collections from museums nationally and internationally. The Herbert recently underwent a vast redevelopment in preparation for Coventry UK City of Culture, enabling the gallery to display more works and major world-class exhibitions.The iconic 26-metre long, 4.17 metre-high cast has been loaned to the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum and will be on display in our Covered Court from Monday 20th February as part of the free installation Dippy in Coventry: The Nation’s Favourite Dinosaur. Dippy’s long-term loan to the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum comes after the venue underwent a vast refurbishment in preparation for Coventry UK City of Culture, enabling the gallery to display more works and major world-class exhibitions including The Turner Prize 2021. Immerse yourself in the 175 million year journey of the Herbert’s ichthyosaur skull and experience the power of interactive storytelling. Each experience lasts approximately 5 minutes.
