It even comes with Zoom Guitar Lab software for creating, editing and managing effects and patches. Zoom has long provided small form factor, working class multi-effects that shout value. The G1 Four is no exception. But news flash, this device sports a much improved interface to offset the large number of menus and variables. The new display and buttons remove two levels of complexity for the user, appealing to my need for simplicity. The interface software is a wonderful, Additional Improvement. So, a user can take full advantage of the range of adjustments in a visual format. The individual effects, amps and cabs are standard things, but faithful to the mainstream. This device is perfect for creating outputs that are reminiscent of hit records from the past. I run mine directly from the stereo output into a Yamaha mixer stereo channel. The mixer connects to a dual amp/speakers for good stereo separation. The Zoom G1 Four is the heart of my guitar sound for my recordings and small live gigs.

For convenience and demo purposes the unit comes stuffed with preset patches. There are 10 banks (A-J) each capable of holding 10 patches; any and all of these can be overwritten and you can move patches about to fully customise your new best friend. Oh, and the unit has a built-in looper with a maximum 30-second recording time as well as the ability to overdub countless times using different patches. There are 68 rhythm patterns to play along with. And there’s a tuner that can be set for five open tunings as well as standard. It’s quite an impressive list. Powered by batteries or 9V DC power adapter (not included, matching optional power adapter: Article Nr. 105835) Guitar players nowadays have it so good when it comes to reasonably priced equipment and instruments. Furthermore, the G1 Four multi-effects processor has an onboard chromatic tuner that supports all standard guitar tunings, including open and drop tunings. A Sonic Experience Controls are not the most intuitive but you get used to it after some time, setting up your sound. It could have been better - 4 stars for handling.

Power Options

The only negative thing I would say is the plastic shell seems a little too light and likely would not hold up to heavy use. It should be fine with proper care. It's quite affordable, especially at the current price of 67 euro. With that, I have to say build quality is acceptable, but I would avoid stomping it with my feet (as I'm a heavy guy). Not sure how it would hold up outside of the bedroom. Cannot give it more than 4 stars for build quality. As with any digital amp modelling pedal, the sounds coming out of this box aren’t especially suited to a valve amp and this isn’t going to replace your high-end “boutique” pedal board, but for a fun and practical practice tool, the ZOOM G1on is unrivalled for this kind of money. BUT: It is by default set to "amp" output mode and it does NOT have a global switch to change to "mixer" or "headphone" mode (!!??). So you have to trigger a cryptic "microphone" feature in the cabinet simulation to get a decent sound when playing via the livingroom stereo or even listening to it via headphones (!?) I mean, you can do that, but you have to do it for EVERY patch you use. Okay, no problem so far, but you need to inform the customers about that. I guess most of the time the device is gonna be uses in a livingroom or with a computer or a DAW or headphones. Not with a "real" cabinet. Learned about that "microphone" mode from the interent.A gig-rig in a box, the Zoom G1 FOUR multi-fx pedal is overflowing with potential, allowing you to perfect your sound and experiment with new ones. Can also act as an audio interface for your guitar. Almost every detail can be tweaked using the idiot proof ergonomics. Pedal chains, mic placement etc. The looper's timing is also modifiable. The built in drummer covers a lot of time signatures and styles for various genres. Runs via an ac adapter, 4x AA batteries (16+ hours of continuous use) or even a powerbank via the micro usb port. I've used DigiTech, TC Electronics, and Line 6 units through the years. While it is possible to get great sounds out of any of them, they take a lot of work. Not the case with this G1 Four unit. A few simple tweaks and you're in tone heaven. The second major improvement is that the algorithms are all software based instead of firmware based and the unit can be connected to a computer via the USB port to update the software, add/delete effects, and edit patches. This also means one can remove unwanted effects from the unit--such as in my case where I have no need for amp modeling or distortions. However, where this pedal comes into it's own is patch creation. You can use the pedal controls or PC-based software to make a patch using a huge range of amps, cabs and pedals. If you can dream it, you can probably make it... or at least a close approximation of it... on the G1X.
