Either way, Dark Horse and this creative team have created something pretty darn special here. Should the quality continue throughout its entire run (hoping its completed, of course), this will no doubt draw a lot of new readers into the tales of the Six Duchies. Maybe after we can even geta Liveship Traders adaptation. Please... 4.5/5 The graphic novel covers a part of the first novel, the early childhood of Fitz Chivaldry, a royal bastard brought to the court around age six and as the machinations take place is trained in a number of disciplines - but most importantly, and secretly trained as the King's Assassin. The core plot is a variant of 'farmboy to hero' trope but an interesting one. For me, politics play a major part of the appeal.

The incredibly influential fantasy novel comes to comics in this first installment of best-selling author Robin Hobbs’ Assassin’s Apprentice ! Letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou relays the narrative with typewriter-style lettering on scraps of torn beige parchment. He presents dialogue in easy-to-read uppercase lettering classic dialogue balloons. He may not go as Old School to reveal thoughts as puffy clouds, but his pleasing font grows bold to express intonation. Assassin’s Apprentice #1 has the difficult task of adapting a novel to comic book form but does so with great skill and interpretation thus far.”— Major Spoilers This adaptation is a wholly different production and not to be confused with the earlier French graphic novel adaptation of the Farseer trilogy called L'Assassin Royal. I read the novelisations a long time ago. Half a lifetime in fact. The mere sight of this in comic form was enough to bring so many memories of my younger self and the happiness and simplicity of such times. The novels were really good, although I enjoyed the Liveship Trilogy more (the second series from Robin Hobb). In fact, it remains my favourite fantasy series to this day. Still, the chance to revisit such a pivotal and poignant moment in my reading life was simply too irresistible to pass up, and I'm really glad I didn't either.Writer Jody Houser states, “I’m excited to continue telling Fitz’s story in comics form. An epic fantasy classic and a dream art team… what’s not to love?” Art is good (even excellent in places) but knows it's there to support the story rather than carry it. In addition to writing, her interests include gardening, mushrooming, and beachcombing. She and her husband Fred have three grown children and one teenager, and three grand-children.

Until recently, Fitz was only known as “boy.” The illegitimate son of a powerful noble, Fitz is taken in by his uncle, Prince Verity, who prepares the boy for a journey to the capital to meet his royal grandfather. But Fitz is not a normal child. An ancient power stirs inside him, something that will change the destiny of the Six Duchies forever! AIPT can exclusively reveal a new comic series is on the way this December from Dark Horse Comics called Assassin’s Apprentice. An adaptation of Robin Hobb’s Farseer Trilogy, Hobb will be joined by co-writer Jody Houser, artist Ryan Kelly, colorist Jordie Bellaire, and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. The six-issue series launches into comic shops on December 14, 2022. The Assassin's Apprentice comic is an adaptation of the first volume of the Farseer trilogy published by Dark Horse Comics. The project was announced on the 9th of September 2022. It is currently in production and being released in set of issues. Written by Robin Hobb and Jody Houser this adaptation does a very good job of introducing the character of Fitz as a young boy, the world of the Six Duchies and some of the main characters and plotlines.

THE EPIC FARSEER TRILOGY COMES TO DARK HORSE COMICS WITH ASSASSIN'S APPRENTICE

Robin Hobb is the author of three well-received fantasy trilogies: The Farseer Trilogy (Assassin’s Apprentice, Royal Assassin, and Assassin’s Quest), The Liveship Traders Trilogy (Ship of Magic, Mad Ship and Ship of Destiny) and the Tawny Man Trilogy (Fool’s Errand, Golden Fool, and Fool’s Fate) Her current work in progress is entitled Shaman’s Crossing. Robin Hobb lives and works in Tacoma, Washington, and has been a professional writer for over 30 years. It's impossible to fit all the detail from the book into an adaptation but all the main plot points and events are here which means we get a much faster moving adventure and yet somehow is still feels like a story being told at a leisurely pace. Hobb is the author whose books Martin described as ‘like diamonds in a sea of zircons,’ the writer to press on those who turn up their noses at fantasy. Her writing is superb, her world-building irresistible, her storylines both hell-for-leather exciting and deeply introspective.”— The Guardian

A man awakens a boy in the middle of the night. His face is a map of wrinkles. He offers to teach him if the boy wishes to be a loyal servant to the king. The boy agrees without knowing what the man will teach him. What happens next? Let’s delve into Assassin’s Apprentice #4 and find out!
