If you have extra Gluhfix tea bags you can use them with plain boiling water to make a mulled wine tea. 🙂 Fresh oranges: One of which we will slice and mull in the wine, one of which you can slice and use as a garnish if you’d like. (Edit: To minimize bitterness, I recommend peeling the orange before simmering it in the wine.) Because after having made this recipe dozens and dozens of times myself over the years, I am absolutely convinced that homemade mulled wine just about the easiest recipe ever for winter and holiday entertaining. Truly. It literally just takes about 5 minutes to prep and can be made either on the stovetop or in a slow cooker. It’s easy to scale anywhere from a “date night” to two…up to big holiday parties with dozens. It’s totally customizable with your favorite spices and liqueurs. And it’s guaranteed to make your home smell absolutely amazing and warm everyone up on a chilly winter night.

Cut oranges and ginger root into 1/8-in. slices, and bake on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 3 to 4 hours at 170°.Divine to drink: I don't know about you, but I can think of nothing better than sitting by the fire drinking a huge mug of non-alcoholic mulled wine - simply bliss! The addition of watching the Christmas tree lights twinkle would be divine!

You can reheat mulled wine in a coffee mug in the microwave or reheat leftover Gluhwein on the stove top.Simple: this recipe is oh so easy to make - you really can't mess it up! Just pop all the ingredients in a slow cooker or saucepan and turn it on. Wait awhile and you're ready to go. There are only a couple of hard-and-fast rules for creating your mulling mix, and they mostly depend on when and how the mix will be used. If you’re using the mix immediately, then use fresh orange slices or orange or lemon peel as the citrus note, or fresh apples (halved or sliced) to make your kitchen smell like apple pie. For the ginger, peel and slice fresh ginger root.

Vanilla is also an unusual addition to Glühwein. I really like it in Glühwein – somehow it delivers a smoother taste and an aroma that is more comforting. The best wine for making homemade Gluhwein is burgundy wine or a red wine blend: this is not the time for fancy wines. A cheap bottle of red is great! The best wines for making mulled wine are those that are full-bodied, dry, fruity, and not overly sweet. Zinfandel, Granche, Shiraz, and Cabernet Sauvignon all work well. Gluhwein is the German word for mulled wine, translated as "glowing-wine." After one sip you will totally get the *glowing* feeling. Hibiscus tea is a herbal infusion from the dried calyx (or sepals) of the roselle flower (Hibiscus sabdariffa ). Sweet in flavour, with hints of cranberry, hibiscus tea is high in Vitamin C, and studies have shown that it can help to reduce blood pressure.Glühwein sweetness is a matter of personal preference. Some purists prefer almost no sugar, others like their Glühwein to be almost syrupy. I like mine a little milder – around the 125 g amount. I find that with the vanilla, it does not need to be too much sugar. Start with a small amount then add bit-by-bit after taste testing to make sure you obtain the level you want. Ideal as a gift: this would make a beautiful Christmas gift, given in a pretty jar with some festive ribbon. I gifted it to a pregnant friend recently and she loved it. Also known as glühwein, vino caliente, glögg, vin brulé, bisschopswijn, vin chaud, candola, vinho quente…or literally a hundred other names, depending on where in the world life may find you. Needless to say, it seems like just about everyone in the world loves some hot wine. And clearly, I can vouch that you all do too! But my favorite uses for these DIY mulling spices are homemade mulled apple cider and mulled wine.
