There seems to be no wound, neither mental nor physical, that can prevent her from easily beating up anyone who crosses her path. And this is told to us ad nauseam throughout the book. According to his writer's profile, his major interests include military history, mountain climbing, fitness training, boxing and reading, in addition to writing and entertainment. As the Drinker, he mainly covers movies and television, and occasionally video games and comic books. He often focuses on what he views in a negative light as the 'political correctness' of entertainment in recent products. To him they suffer from forced and poorly inserted political correctness, hamfisted messaging born out of "Trump Derangement Syndrome". According to him, the current mega media industry sees identity politics being valued over story and characters, excessive uses of virtue signaling, alongside unqualified and unlikable creators and actors. He also loathes the way beloved IPs of the past are, in his eyes, retooled into being vehicles for present day ‘woke’ politics, such as Star Wars, Doctor Who, Star Trek and Marvel. He believes that as a result, the stories themselves are often poorly written on a fundamental level. Sadly the tone of the characters is not always consistent, and several moments that are supposed to be emotionally important come too soon or are otherwise underdeveloped. The closer we get to the ending the more most characters seem to start following a typical Hollywood formula with all the clichés you may find in generic action movies, along with lines we've all heard uttered before. In any case, the book is written well enough and the story is compelling enough to keep the reader hooked.

In 2019, Captain Marvel was about to be released and had been very controversial among audiences as a centerpiece of the present day culture war. Jordan, having had his own gripes with the movie and the leading actress Brie Larson, yet noticed how seriously everyone was taking the situation, created The Critical Drinker persona as a means to poke fun at it through a comedic lens. After graduating high school he moved on to university, gaining an Honors Degree in Information Technology. To support himself during his degree he worked a number of part time jobs, one of which was as an extra in television and feature films. Cast as a World War Two soldier, he was put through military boot camp in preparation for the role.He also has the belief and makes the argument that all this does is hurt the value of entertainment itself and cause a divide where they would previously unite. Stories of the past featured timeless and universal themes and had applicability to everyone, yet today's stories will inevitably become dated to the period that it's in. The Drinker has set out to help save entertainment, in his own way, by drawing more attention to the failings, and successes, of Hollywood. I read the first novel in this series about a year ago – not my usual cup of tea but to my surprise I found myself really caught up in it. The characters were compelling enough to hold my attention and the plot moved along to a conclusion that left it wide open for a sequel. And here it is.

This book does not let up. It hits the gas and it doesn't let up on the pedal.' -- ***** Reader review

She’s wanted by the CIA. But Ryan Drake has other plans…

If you're a spy thriller junkie, absolutely read these books. And, even if you're not, you'll likely enjoy them as much as I have. Which is to say considerably.

Sadly, Jordan's editor let him down again... badly. Within the first few chapters, there's a comment about the landscaping around a building, where Drake observes that a "coy pond" wouldn't have been out of place, presumably meaning a Koi pond. Then there's a scene where Drake's superior asks him something like "Was anything I said unclear?", to which he responds "Abundantly.", as if he'd been asked "Did I make myself clear?"... From the start Mr Jordan weaves a spell - the action is fast and believable' -- ***** Reader review Well, in many ways the second Ryan Drake story is much like the first: there's a lot of fast paced action, multiple characters who all get their moment to shine, interesting locations, conspiracies to unearth, and a seemingly simple mission that turns out much more complex and dangerous than the characters ever expected. It's a book that's hard to put down until the whole story is finished, that's for sure. Examples in full include "But, Drinker, you bastion of intersectional feminism I hear you say." or "But, Drinker, you charming but handsome rogue I hear you say." When depicted onscreen, The Drinker is usually seen with dark aviator shades which is considered the icon of the persona.

Tibert, Diane (2020-01-11). "Critical Drinker Inspires a Wins vs Losses List". Diana Tibert . Retrieved 2021-09-29. As for how long the series has left, that's tough to say! I'm contracted for at least 3 more books by my UK publisher, and there are certainly a few more scrapes for Drake to get into along the way. Obviously every story to end eventually, but as for Drake himself... well, there are a lot of places I plan to take his character development first. That's what I enjoy most about this series - watching Drake and his companions change and develop with each book.

But nothing is what it seems, and within hours of arriving in the war-torn country, Drake and his team find themselves caught in a deadly conflict between a brutal terrorist warlord and the ruthless leader of a private military company. Knowing this man holds information vital to the ongoing conflict, the CIA bring in Ryan Drake and his elite Shepherd team to find and rescue their lost operative. So the rest of the plot can happen." -- Said when covering a badly written story element that is only there out of lazy writing to continue the story. He was born in Scotland in 1983. His works to date include: However, even without the politics, the Drinker criticizes the excessive amounts of remakes of lower quality, diluting what made the originals great and adding nothing good to the IP, such as Cruella and Mulan.Drinker Does Gaming -- Livestreams of video games, such as the Resident Evil series, Ghost of Tsushima and Call of Duty. Drinker's Chasers -- Excerpts from Open Bar and VIP Lounge streams, about a particular subject that was discussed, such as subverting expectations, the death of Hollywood, superhero fatigue etc. With many major publications singing Jordan’s praises, most are drawn towards his sense of suspense. That and his ability to create action set-pieces which are highly visceral and entertaining for his readers to experience, is what many readers have come to appreciate, as he gains fans both far and wide. The career of Will Jordan is growing from strength-to-strength due to this, something that doesn’t appear to stopping anytime soon.
