Odd Name Out: Their Canon Name is 'Yuu', which Ace will remark on as being weird in the prologue. Considering the names of everyone else in the cast, it does stand out as the only Japanese sounding name. As You Know: Chapter 1 has a brief recap sequence concerning the events of Heartslabyul and Riddle overblotting. Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: In Chapter 7, Malleus asked them if they had the option to stay while still being able to see their loved ones instead of leaving, would Yuu take that option. Yuu says that they would and that people who don't feel lonely over separations don't exist. This ultimately convinced and gave Malleus the push for his plan and shape him to be the Arc Villain of the chapter.

The story handles well the classic "stranger in a strange land" trope - a strange land where classic Disney films are part of the history and the classic Disney villains are celebrated as leaders. I enjoy all of the references - from phrases ("off with your head") to locations (the cottage near the mine and a haunted mansion) and more. In the more traditional sense, Yuu is technically this to Grim as they are put in charge of making sure Grim doesn't get into more trouble as well as Grim acting as the primary power source of the two. However, Grim greatly prefers to go to the beat of his own drum and views himself as the master and Yuu as his servant.

Yuuken did not get tested to see if he can use magic or not by the Dark Mirror. Instead, he refuses to enroll Night Raven College because he's already a student from another school. Mateo, Alex (October 13, 2023). "Viz Media Licenses Battle Royale: Enforcers, Naruto: Konoha's/Sasuke's Story, Star Wars: Visions, More Manga". Anime News Network . Retrieved October 16, 2023. Unlike the game, where the game's Yuu is brought to Twisted Wonderland without anything to their name, Yuuken still has his school bag and Kendo blade, along with his wallet and phone.

Audience Surrogate: Shares this role with Ace, Deuce, and Grim. They’re from another world and don’t understand much of how this world works which often leads the other characters to explain it to them. Butt-Monkey: Is frequently teased by the other characters and gets his comeuppance for his arrogance just as often. Demoted to Extra: They’re only the primary point-of-view character in the main story. Due to the Ensemble Cast nature of the events, they can potentially be absent or appear less frequently in certain event story chapters as the perspective shifts to another character (or characters) that the story is focusing on. They also rarely show up in the personal stories of the other characters, as those tend to focus on the interactions between the other Night Raven College students. The only personal stories to avert this trope are the first sets of the Birthday personal stories, where the respective birthday boy is being interviewed by Yuu. I don't think (?) there were any female characters in this book. Lots of pretty guys. I'm not against that, it just seemed odd to me. No whiff of romance, so not a BL that I could tell. Again, not against that, but some gender diversity would be nice if it's not going to be a BL. Maybe it develops into one later? I don't know the game, so not sure of how the storyline progresses. Meaningful Name: His given name "Yuuken" (雄剣) contains the kanji for "hero/male" and "sword". The manga confirm this version of Yuu is male and references him being the vice captain of the Kendo Club at his school.

Light Novel

A manga adaptation, titled Disney Twisted-Wonderland The Comic: Episode of Heartslabyul, written by Wakana Hazuki and illustrated by Sumire Kowono, was serialized in Square Enix's Monthly G Fantasy magazine from March 18, 2021, [14] to October 18, 2022. [15] It was collected in four tankōbon volumes from September 2021 to December 2022. [16] [17] The manga is licensed in English by Viz Media. [18]

Maybe I'm just too old for this now, so I don't "get" it? Maybe because manga isn't my go-to reading source, I just don't connect with the whole thing. Or maybe it's just badly written? In any case, I won't be continuing this series, which is disappointing, because God only knows how Disney obsessed I truly am. Oh well. On the other hand, the gacha elements and tepid gameplay will probably make this game difficult to get into if you're not already used to this kind of gaming model. Veteran gacha gamers will point out that it's a relatively easy game for free-to-play players, and because there's no PvP element, there's no need to think about the metagame. But that ease of progression also means that the gameplay is not very interesting in its own right; the combat is simplistic, and in practice you'll spend most of your time doing the same lesson simulator over and over. The idea is that by subjecting yourself to the tedious grind, you'll feel more attachment to the boys you've raised and will want to roll the gacha for their alts. This is a visual novel first, with some RPG mechanics that serve to artificially inflate the playtime. Cozy Glow now stands at perilous crossroads. Will she embrace her role as the story's master manipulator, or could she emerge as its most unlikely savior? Either way, one thing's for sure: Twisted Wonderland will never be the same again. Language: English Words: 23,994 Chapters: 8/? Comments: 26 Kudos: 75 Bookmarks: 18 Hits: 1,042 Protagonist Without a Past: Not much is known about Yuu other than them being from another world and that they're implied to be connected to Twisted Wonderland, after all. I am, quite possibly, the worst person to be reviewing this book. Is it because I haven't played the game? Maybe in part. But the true reason is that I have what I like to call an Alice Problem - an unreasonable fascination with Lewis Carroll's Alice duology. Add in a knowledge of folklore and I know too much about the things this book is playing with.

Kuroki Yuuya

The genre of Disney Twisted-Wonderland is described as a "Villains Academy ADV ( adventure game)". [4] It is described to have a "basic gameplay system" consisting of three main elements: Lessons, Stories, and Tests. Unfazed Everyman: They become this throughout the story, likely due to how long they've been in Twisted Wonderland by that point. Nice Guy: Despite his intimidating appearance, he's not a bad guy and does what he can to help others. Ok, I'm not a huge Disney-head, nor do I play any console/computer games, so both of those tie-ins didn't ring any of my bells. I did understand the tie-in to Disney characters, it just isn't a huge selling point for me. Green-Eyed Monster: In "Lost in the Book with Stitch", he gets jealous of Stitch himself for despite not having magic, Stitch can do a lot of things better than Grim did and was able to easily get the other casts, Yuu included, to warm up to Stitch. a b Disney Twisted-Wonderland The Comic Episode of Heartslabyul 1. Square Enix . Retrieved March 25, 2023.This gets played up further in the English localization where some of the dialogue choices include "Allow me to introduce you to the lounge sofa." and "Please! I don't have Dental Insurance!".
