Just a single coat of Cuprinol is enough to protect your garden furniture for a year. The 1-litre can is enough to cover several pieces of furniture.

Another method to remove algae and its stains is to use a mixture of baking soda, water and vinegar. Add two parts white vinegar to one part water and three heaped spoons of baking soda. Place a scrubbing brush into the mixture and apply it to the algae stains on your furniture, then leave it for ten minutes. Gently scrub away the algae and the stains and rinse the mixture away with water, before leaving it to dry in the sun. What is the best thing to clean garden furniture? The best time of year to oil your garden furniture is in spring, so that it looks its best throughout the summer season when it will get used the most. If you leave your garden furniture outside over the winter months then we would also recommend that you clean and oil the wood again in Autumn, and ideally use a furniture cover too. Wooden garden or patio furniture that has turned grey or silver as a result of weathering and UV damage can be restored. There are a couple of ways to restore the colour of garden furniture as detailed below. Apply the Teak Oil liberally to a Lint Free Cloth and rub into the wood following the direction of the grain. Leave for a few minutes then wipe off any excess. Leave the Teak Oil to thoroughly soak in and dry for between 4-6 hours.

You will notice that your furniture may turn darker when applying, but after a day or so once it has dried, it will become lighter and will look amazing. It has quite a strong smell, which is unpleasant (I quite like it!). One bottle transformed my table, two benches and two chairs, just for reference.

When applying a garden furniture oil always do a small test area to assess product suitability and final colour before starting any project. Garden Furniture FAQ’s Now it’s time to protect your wood. This should be done every season. Teak oil will shield your hardwood furniture from the elements and keep it looking new. Using a rag, apply the oil, rubbing it in gently and following the grain. You can add more than one coat of oil, but make sure thefirst onedries completely before you apply the next. How to clean wrought-iron garden furniture You can apply the OLI-Natura oil with a brush, a microfiber roller brush or a cotton cloth. But you cannot put it in a sprayer. What I like about it: One litre of the oil goes pretty far – between 12 and 25 square metres depending on type of wood. One or two cans should cover all your outdoor furniture and other wooden surfaces.

When “Teak Oil” isn’t Teak Oil

Oiling causes mildew: Many teak oil products and so-called protectors can actually cause a build up of mildew and mould, resulting in unsightly patches or irregular discolouring of the wood. Well then, if you’re not going to treat teak patio furniture with oil, what should you do to keep it looking beautiful? Teak naturally fades from a golden tan to a silver gray through oxidation. It will begin a few weeks after keeping your furniture outdoors. After a year it should pretty much be a gray color. It costs about the same as other 1L cans, so it’s a good bargain. The best part is that it protects your furniture and outdoor surfaces just as well as other pricier oils.

If there are any old residues of finish, varnish, or wax on the wood wipe it down with White Spirit to remove these. Applying Teak OilFor most garden furniture sets, a 1-litre bottle of oil is adequate. It’ll cover a table and chairs as well as a garden bench. One thing I love about the Ronseal garden furniture oil is all the finish options it comes in. There’s natural, clear, teak and oak. What I like about it: Prepare the space where you will be cleaning. Ensure all other objects are out of the way. Place the furniture in a well ventilated area. A. No, it is not a wood stain. However, it will help to restore the honey colour look Teak should have. Restoring this colour completely can be achieved using our Teak Care Kit that contains Teak Cleaner, Teak Brightener and Teak Oil, rather than using a stain.

A. Yes, our Teak Oil is excellent for woods both indoors and out, especially for use on garden furniture. Re-apply when the wood starts to look dull, at least once a year. You should make sure to clean your teak garden furniture before and after storing it, and a couple of times in-between. We’d recommend re-oiling before or after your furniture goes into storage. Be sure to clean up any spills that touch the wood as soon as possible, so they don’t have a chance to stain.

Most people think it’s the way forward, and although it might seem satisfying as you watch it change colour we’ve seen lovely furniture destroyed by the powerful jets stripping away timber along with the dirt. Instead, I recommend cleaning it all over with a wood cleaner, giving it light sand, and then applying a saturating wood oil. This will keep your wooden seats and tables strong and looking their best for decades.’ Teak oil application isn’t complicated, but you should do it thoroughly to ensure the whole piece of furniture receives protection. A patchy application might mean some spots weather faster than others, which would make for unattractive-looking furniture. Both oils are very similar, as you’ll see in the chart below. The main difference is that Teak Oil dries to a matt finish, whereas Danish Oil dries to a satin / semi-gloss finish.
