When running on the wet and muddy ground, the shoe's deep chevron lugs dig into the ground, anchoring you in place. This gives a solid base for push-off from when taking a stride and digging into the ground when braking and changing direction. Boasting maximum cushioning and GORE-TEX to keep the wet out, the Salomon Supercross 3 is a great option for a lighter trail run that doesn't require too much protection from loose and uneven ground. In addition, Salomon class this as a regular cushioned shoe, so although it is comfortable, it may not provide you with the extreme comfort to keep off soreness and fatigue from multi-day trips. The Supercross is a great option for travel where some running in the mix, fast hiking, and around town due to its easy on and off, generous fit, and traction. My initial test runs in these shoes were all done in late fall and early winter conditions, basically a mess of snow, ice, water, and mud. These shoes were right at home in these conditions.

It's a more comfortable ride for your foot which gives you that better feeling with every stride, especially on trail runs that are harsher on your feet. Salomon always boasts a fabulous outsole, it grips like teeth to the ground and is great on both wet and dry ground. The lugs with deep penetration offer superb grip on soft surfaces such as mud or loose dirt. This flexible shoe is both breathable and lightweight and will enhance your performance, adding more pleasure to your run. A dedicated trail running shoe to be certain, the Supercross finds its home on a variety of terrain and even felt pretty good on a gravel pedestrian trail. With five different color options, the Supercross will also fit nicely into the color palate of any runners wardrobe. Fit of the Supercross The insole of any shoe is important as it gives your foot that comfort that it desires while it pounds the ground.These were just enough to handle everything short of what might require a waterproof shoe or something with additional traction.

Unfortunately, given the timing (summer) and location (Front Range of Colorado) of my reviewing for the Supercross, I have not encountered any mud, but an educated guess is that the Supercross would be better in mud specifically, however the XA Elevate (and X Alpine Pro) have superior wet traction, so would consider what comes after or intermittently with the muddy sections. The Salomon Supercross 3 is a great competitor in the trail-running field, but it does come with some things that you may want to consider. These aren't great for mixed terrain so be mindful of that.The Supercross 3 GTX has a Contragrip rubber outsole, giving you maximum traction on mixed terrain. The aggressive chevron lug pattern offers multi-directional grip, which is perfect for softer ground and surfaces with loose dirt.
