Even though Kim and Nicola are friends, Ryan and Lewis are not. Ryan & Nicola do not have this kind of money and cannot afford a vacation like this, so Nicola is just thrilled to be going along with her hubby and 11-year-old daughter, Emily.
The fact that I stayed to the end, even though I didn’t particularly like any of the characters, or their behaviour towards each other, means that I was invested enough in the outcome, and didn’t know what twists where going to come next. The weekend is a disaster waiting to happen. Unfortunately, there will be someone not leaving the holiday home alive. Wow! ... Amazing book … I was on pins and needles til the very end! What a plot twist!... You will not want to put this down. This is a must read!! ’ Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I listened to the audio and thought both narrators did a great job. This book lent itself perfectly to a dual narration. Nicola feels a bit insecure because Kim is richer and more fit than she is but she loves Kim so much that she doesn't let it get to her until she stumbles upon a secret. Instead of confronting it head on, she sits on it until she's sure of what to do.I was not wowed, blown away, or cared for any of the characters in the novel, and not invested in them. The dark humor was missing. It was more of a family drama and domestic suspense and would not qualify as a psychological thriller. Then I overhear Ryan having a whispered conversation late one evening, and he says something that sends a shiver down my spine. In this beautiful paradise my whole world is turned upside down.
Another BIG secret is kept under wraps that the author pulls out at the end, bumping the rating to 3.5 Stars. Who is the LIAR that gets away? After that it only takes an accidental glance at the wrong text, an over heard conversation, and everything blows up. I wanted to love this book. It had so many possibilities but it just didn't reach for them. This could have easily been a novela. It was a very long book for such a simple plot. And it was totally predictable. I'd figured it out by Chapter five or so. There are many times when what you suspect may just be true. Our ability to tap into our sixth sense, is scary at times and at others it is infuriating and leads us into territory we don't really want to be in. All across the USA, people are showing up dead. The deaths don't appear to be connected in any way until one particular death occurs and gets the Secretary of Defense's attention. He arranges for a task force to investigate.Ryan resents Lewis' money. Nicola also is jealous and resents all the money things can buy, and how Kim flirts and showcases her body.
I suspect I can hear the blood pumping around my body too, or at least feel it, but I know that's not a normal thing to be aware of. I'm usually occupied enough not to be thinking about such a thing, but here, it's as if time has stopped and I'm aware of everything.

UNPUTDOWNABLE, HEART-RACING … Wow!!! ... had me hook, line and sinker from beginning to end… My heart was pounding throughout … I absolutely loved this… And omg the twist!!! I DID NOT see the twists coming at all and there were more than one!!! Just when I think everything had been worked out… BOOM there was another bombshell!!... Because not everyone who vacations in Kim's family's holiday home will be leaving the holiday home alive. Enjoyed this uncomplicated, fast paced, easy reading suspense thriller. Two families travel together to this Idyllic picturesque setting in the Scottish highlands, miles away from anywhere for a weekend holiday in Lewis’s and Kim’s luxurious log cabin. The two families in question are headed by Nicola and Kim, who’ve been friends for many years.
