A bank of clouds was assembling on the not-so-distant horizon, but journalist-mountaineer Jon Krakauer, standing on the summit of Mt. Everest, saw nothing that "suggested that a murderous storm was bearing down." He was wrong. a.) Someone who experienced something interesting, but who can't write about it in an interesting way, or Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at thee." Never felt the passion or heat between Darcy and Trevor really... there were a few sweet moments that I liked but all in all, I didn't "feel" the connection like I did with the other two. Not sure why really. Just an overall disconnectedness (right word?) I suppose. I just found this to be an important event in history. Yes; Not all of them are pleasant. I learned a lot.

So that's where I landed with this book - I kind of hated these fools on the Essex, but I did feel a little bit of sympathy. If you ignore the fact that there also might have been intentional racist cannibalism/murder going on. But I'll let you read and decide for yourself on that account. But as the saying goes, dead men tell no tales, so we'll never know for sure. b.) Someone who perhaps usually writes about things in an interesting way, but who wasn't able to experience the critical subject firsthand. took a dim view of off-islanders, calling them ''coofs.'' And when push came to shove, they took care of their own. ''Although rations appear to have been distributed equally,''Not Even Bothering with the Accent: Chris Hemsworth uses his natural Australian accent for Owen Chase, a character born and raised in the United States. manta ray and drowned. But locals explained that they had long done it thus. And besides, harpoons were expensive. This last con isn't an addition to the list necessarily... a little saddened that since this is the third book, we don't get to see more of Trevor and Darcy's life together. It feels a little like Darcy got shorted in her story.

This book was so engrossing that I felt as if I had worked on a whaling ship and had survived a disaster at sea.
