Gabriel Boudier Saffron Gin is said to be based on a recipe found in the archives. It’s an East (saffron) meets West (gin) interpretation. When I tried it, I had it neat at room temperature, then I added some icewater and it flattened out a bit, then I added ice and it lost much of its aromatic glory. Now I only drink it at room temperature. There’s also a hint of sweetness in here. Gabriel Boudier Saffron Gin has a slightly enhanced viscosity, and while not at Old Tom levels of overt sweetness, it seems to have a bit of it in here. A fabulous gin! Makes the best martini on the planet – the Old King Cole! And, hands down, offers the richest, most flavorful gin & tonic too. I’m a big fan of Plymouth, Ford’s, and Beefeater as well – for different reasons. But, Old Raj is simply the best gin anywhere. Period. And it out to be at the price point! But, while it costs twice as much as Aviation, for example, it provides at least five times the flavor. American gin still has a long, long way to go …. Our Speakeasy & tasting room has a unique vibe and is located in the industrial area of Fort Collins off of S. Link Lane. We are normally open Wed from 5pm to 8pm and Fri-Sat from 4pm to 8pm.

This review is for the 55% ABV version of Old Raj Dry Gin. It begins with a classic set of botanicals among which are juniper, citrus, coriander, cassia, and other classics. But what really sets it apart is is slight golden tint, which is a result of the post-distillation addition of saffron. Saffron is the most expensive spice in the world. It can be used for various culinary purposes, from stew to drinks.We produce an Aquavit, made from 100% Organic Wheat neutral grain spirit and aged for up to a year in small five-gal ex-single malt barrels. Place the peel in the bottom of a lidded clean glass jar or bottle and add the gin, using a funnel if it’s easier. Leave in a dark place for the flavours to develop; this can take from 1–3 weeks. Generally, once the peel has turned white, all its flavour has been infused. Melt the sugar in a saucepan on medium heat. When the sugar gets brown, lower the heat to start to get light amber color and set aside.

I really, really like the Old Raj 55% for a sipping gin. In my opinion, it loses too much when chilled. I sip it in a snifter with a little water, more or less depending on how I feel. This is a gin that invites contemplation and relaxation. I have Old Raj 55% in a decanter on my bar. Produced in a traditional pot still by Dijon micro distiller Gabriel Boudier, Saffron Gin is made to a 19th century Indian colonial recipe that contains nine fresh botanicals. Saffron seems to have originated in western Asia travelling from there to India. By the tenth century it was being grown by the Arabs in Spain. The Moors are said to have brought it to Italy, France and Germany by the thirteenth century. Of Persian origin, saffron is the most world's most expensive piece and a timeless symbol of the city of Milan, as evidenced by its yellow risotto. CardamomWe triple-distill our whiskeys in small batches. The Whiskies age in new or used 5, 10, 15, and 30-gallon American oak barrels. We produce traditional American whiskey, single malt whiskey, blended whiskey, Bourbon whiskey, rye whiskey, NOCO whiskey, and a new make (moonshine) called Trailershine®. Hi – I made this gin a month ago with some good organic lemons shipped direct from Spain and cheap French gin.

Just tried it and I have to admit it’s delicious. Must make another batch before I use up all the lemons in some marmalade. When Stanley Tucci explored the gastronomic wonders of Italy for his CNN docuseries Searching For Italy, he made a stop in Milan, the Italian capital of the aperitivo. We will produce a 100% Blue Agave Spirit. A Blanco (clear) as well as a Barreled “Reposado” and “Añejo” style versions. We also produce a 50% Blue Agave & 50% Cane Spirit. A Blanco (clear) as well as a Barreled “Reposado” and Añejo style versions.

Overall

We produce numerous vodkas. A Premium & Super Premium Vodka. Our "house" vodka is distilled at least five times and filtered through custom filtration tubes. To ensure its purity, we distill our Super Premium Vodka minimum of 7 times, travel's an equivalent‎ of 1 mile or 1.6km during this repeat filtration process, and bottled at 55% ABV (110 Proof). The saffron is added via post-distillation maceration, hence the beautiful Golden hue. Tasting Notes

The heady bergamot orange is a fragrant citrus that grows in France and Italy. It looks like a squat green lemon. Its juice is more acidic than lemon but its peel is uplifting – it has a deeper, almost woody citrus scent. I adore it. You can also buy bergamot lemons which look like a traditional lemon but taste sweeter, with a more orange skin; I like to use the greener bergamot oranges as they have more of the floral lemony notes I love, but both work. I have made a pretty pink-tinged blood orange version too. Straight, in a strong martini, or paired with a more bitter tonic such as Q, the saffron is there and part of what is a very nice blend of traditional gin ingredients. Sadly, mix it with anything more poignant and the saffron is gone.Any suggestions on doing this with kumquats. Would one use the whole thing or ? (I’m just trying to imagine peeling those lil guys) Saffron is a spice that is often used in savory dishes, but it can also add a unique and exotic flavor to your drinks.
