That encounter seemed fairly typical. It went a lot better than the Wraith battle. The Assassin is quite the formidable foe, but against seasoned Heroes, shouldn’t be too much of a problem. So far, I really like what I’ve seen from this expansion. Avalon Hill seems to have delivered a really decent product with an interesting story. One thing I find particularly interesting about the Mercenaries is the fact that the Cadre of the Raven’s Veil isn’t mentioned in the rules portion of the Quest Book, nor is it a part of the story at the beginning, during Mentor’s message. We look forward to new, great things from you in the future. My Testing Experience I really appreciate the “HOMEBREW” section on the interface. This allows you to link your own custom assets to the builder via URL. For instance, if I have a unique monster that I use, I can create my own icon, upload it to Imgur, and then link it in hQuestBuilder. This feature is a bit limited at the moment. We can only use assets that use 1 grid space on the map, hopefully this challenge will be overcome in a future update. Here, our group has interrupted some kind of Dread ritual, we have some Dread Cultists at a sorcerer table conjuring a Dread Wraith, I’m assuming that’s how the Wraiths will get into this plane of existence.

The Specter has the ability to cast the Dread Spell “Channel Dread” at will. At the very least, this means it can cast the spell once every turn. The “At Will” part may be a little confusing. Can this monster cast the spell outside of Zargon’s turn? I don’t think so, but we’ll have to wait to see if this is specified in the Quest Book. The Wraith, seeing the Barbarian as it’s biggest threat, casts Fear on him then floats past him and through the corridor.No longer able to see the Heroes, the Wraith further retreats, biding it’s time, waiting for the Heroes to come to it. Let’s talk about the interface. I love it, my daughter (10) loves it! It’s simple, easy to use, and straightforward. The builder has a pretty easy learning curve, as long as you are familiar with HeroQuest. What I mean by that is, you kind of need to know what all the icons are to understand how to use them. Let’s face it, if you aren’t familiar with HeroQuest, you probably shouldn’t be making quests yet! Get a few quests played and make sure you are familiar with the rules and how existing quests are designed before you get started designing your own. To Chris Nadeau, Avalon Bill (sorry Bill, I only know you by your Discord name), and the rest of the Team at Avalon Hill, The added game mechanics are just complex enough to add something interesting to the game, but without making destroying the main thing that makes HeroQuest stand out from most other games, it’s simplicity.
